PayPal Here - manual credit card entry?

The instructions say that a credit card can be manually entered, but when I tried this, the app kept requesting that I scan the card (I assume with the phone's camera since I didn't have the card reader inserted). The reason I had manually entered the info was because I didn't have the physical card in my possession (but did have the customer on the phone giving me her card info). Can cards be manually entered?

You can Scan, Swipe or Manually Enter a card to accept payment with PayPal Here™ on your iOS or Android device.

  1. Log in to the PayPal Here™ app.
  2. Enter the amount due or select items from your inventory and tap "Charge."
  3. Tap "Card."

You can choose to swipe, scan or manually enter the card details:

Swipe: Swipe the card through the card reader.

Scan:

  1. Tap Scan Card.
  2. Tap "Done" when you have successfully scanned  the card.
  3. Enter the card's CSC and the card holder's zip code.

Manually enter:

  1. Enter the card number, expiry date, CSC, and the card holder's zip code.
  2. Tap "Process."

After you have successfully entered the card details, review the payment. The buyer can then add a tip if you have this option selected.

If the payment is over $25 USD or if you have the "Signature Required" setting turned on, the buyer will be presented with a screen to sign with their finger to complete the purchase.

You can provide a receipt to the customer by text message or email.

After I manually entered all requisite card info, the app kept insisting that I "scan the card" and would not proceed with processing ...

you obviously can use a paypal debit/credit card number by manually punching it in and having the 'consumer' which should be you sign the slip.

when paypal was hacked in jan 2013, all of my funds were stolen by this process, the account transaction read

'debit card purchase, signature'

Interesting as we've used this service for quite some time, actually longer than most.  It obvious that PayPal is not for everyone however, you do have a choice of services.  Check out this list of alternatives, perhaps you will find a better match for your needs.    http://www.stayonsearch.com/top-10-paypal-alternatives

between personal and business accounts i'm almost 15 years with paypal, not very many people with paypal that long. as far as using other services, you really must be ill informed because ebay now makes it manditory to use paypal.

consider this, i still accept money orders from people who do not for whatever reason have the means to use paypal and i could be in violation?

i do not mean to or even want to start a fuss about this, but between the OCC, SEC, FTC they have filed criminal monopoly charges for less in the past.
