Recently Made a Sale, What Does This Email Mean?

Hey all, This is my first time using PayPal so I am really unsure of where to find (or rather look for) these answers, so I apologize in advance if this is a silly question. I recently made a sale for an item. The buyer seemed a little bit sketchy so I just wanted to check if I had been scammed or not. I recently sold and item, the buyer claims to have sent me money through paypal and I then received this email. When I click on "View and Pay Invoice" this is the page I am sent to

For reference, I am J, and the buyer is R

Now I am unable to tell what is going on here due to my lack of knowledge in this field. I am aware that the Paypal gift for friends and family, is non-refundable so I don't understand why the buyer would use that option, or at least why the Invoice says that at the bottom. Also, my account balance has not changed since this transaction was made (almost 24 hours ago) so I'm beginning to worry.

Again, I realize this is a silly question but I really want to know what's going on. Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

@Equus

Certainly IS NOT a silly question and very sensible of you to come here and ask it.

If it was marked as an invoice then its probably a scam doing the rounds as its been sent by a buyer and altered to look as though he has paid you.

Signs its a scam are >>>

its an invoice BUT sellers send invoices not buyers

marked as paid

marked as gift

says payment won't show in your balance for eg 24 hours

can't be chargedback.

Paypal NEVER tell you to send anything until the funds are showing in your paypal account balance.

Paypal payments are more or less instant.

Paypal will never tell you that a payment can't be subject to a chargeback if thats what scammers are still putting on invoices.

Thank you very much for the reply. That is unfortunate to hear. So for clarification the email and invoice I received essentially mean that the "buyer" never actually sent payment? Good to know, thank you!

A buyer never sends an invoice.  That's the first sign of a scam.

It's also likely the PayPal email address was spoofed and the eamil wasn't from PayPal.

The only thing unfortunate would be if you sent the item; that would be a loss.
