A buyer is telling me that his account has been hacked, but he talked to PayPal, and can send me an eCheck to expedite the process. This makes me wary. Are eChecks safe from a seller perspective? Are PayPal protections in place if I send an item that was paid for by eCheck? Thanks!

An eCheck is as safe as any other method. On the other hand, you need to check your PayPal payment transaction page before shipping no matter what the payment method. That page will indicate if you are covered for seller potection and whether or not it is OK to ship.
