Real Estate Sale

I just sold a piece of land to someone on eBay and the buyer paid me on PayPal. I sent the buyer the Deed and now the buyer is trying to dispute the payment. I thought the buyer can't get a refund due to the PayPal land policy. Can someone verify ?

I think it's time you hire a real estate attorney to resolve the issue.

I have no idea about protection for eBay sales.

I would never consider PayPal for real estate.  I would only use a title agent for real estate transfers.  Even title agents no longer accept certified check due to fraud.  Real estate is a target for fraud.

PayPal protection is for shippable tangible goods, so real estat does not qualify.  Furthermore, how would PayPal know if the deed was even valid when the buyer claims it was fraudulent.

If the buyer claims unauthorized payment, then you have no PayPal protection so you loose the land and the deed.  Solution:  pay an attorney to look at the supporting documents and transaction.  Generally real estate deals need to have a signed deal.

Good luck; I think you need that now.

Should have hired a title transfer company and lawyer before the sale.

FROM PAYPALS BUYER PROTECTION.

Payments for the following are not eligible for reimbursement under PayPal Purchase Protection:

  • Real estate, including residential property.

You are correct, i think the buyer can open a dispute but not escalate to a claim.

If he has done so then contact customer services and point out its a real estate transfer that is not covered by buyer protection  >>

Click on the words "Contact" at the bottom of your paypal account summary page and use the phone option (if there is one in the country you are in) > click on the "call us" option on the left (fees "may" apply so check the cost with your phone tariff first, as you sometimes have to wait a while to connect).

When you get through don't select any options just hang on till you get transfered to an agent or say the press 0.
