Canada to US transfer

I'm trying to transfer funds from my account in Canada to a friend in the US.  When I try to do this though, it indicates a 1% fee.  However, my friend in the US is able to transfer me money for free.  Is there supposed to be a fee to send money to the US or am I doing something wrong?

That's a good question. You're doing everything right. There is a 1% fee to send a personal payment from Canada to the United States, but no additional fee to send a personal payment from the United States to Canada.

That's just how our fees are set. For more info please see the International Payments section in our United States user agreement and Canada user agreement.

Friends in Canada sent us money in US $, but the amount received was way less!?  On hold with PP right now to see why...

Hi, is the international fee on money going from Canada to US added on to the amount, or is it deducted from the amount received by the US account? Thanks!

Sorry to say there is always a one way fee for Canada to US bound transfers.  YES it is a one way door.  Free from US to Canada, but you're hit with a fee from Canada to US transactions.

I am currently wondering the same thing. The confirmation email that I received says "pending because it was sent in a currency in which you do not currently hold a balance." Does this mean I won't be able to receive the money? Is there something I need to do?
