Church payments

Seems that making payments between PayPal clients/users incurs no fee.

Making payments to vendors does incur a fee.

How does PayPal view a religious organization? Friend, user, business, vendor?

How do reciepients move funds received from PayPal account to personal/business account?

Money to a church is like a non-refundable gift, so using the friends/family/gift option should be OK.

Thanks for the info. More questions ...

Any special actions to make a PayPal account for a church, non-profit?

How does an authorised person sweep money from that account into the church's bank account?

OR - is this explained elsewhere in the FAQ's?

Depends.

Our church was told that any state recognized church would receive their discount upon proving church status. We even received documentation from their support people that showed this was the policy. However, after a 2 week period of applying, we were rejected because we're not a 501c3, even though our church is the 4th largest denomination in the US. There appears to be another contingent of PayPal that feels that you have to have 501c3 status to receive any nonprofit rates.

Very contradictory policy and poorly communicated to their support staff. I would say you are treated like a business until you get 501c3 status, and even then you may not be given the nonprofit rate.

PayPal doesn't apply it's policy well.

Also, if you want to use the "donations" button, you can't use the "freinds/families" transfer. PayPal doesn't support it. You also have to be registered as an individual and not a business.

For us, we're looking elsewhere for our business. PayPal doesn't support churches, in my opinion.

Good luck.
