I have always bought stuff on eBay via Instant Transfer from my checking account, but now all of a sudden I'm sending eChecks. What is up with that?

Normally an echeque is sent wihen you either don't have a back up card linked to your paypal account OR that card has expired and needs updating.

It can also be sent when you have had a recent failed bank transfer.

It sounds like you must have had a credit card on file before that is now expired or has been removed from your account..??

When sending payments using bank account funds, the only way it'll do an "instant transfer" is if you have a valid credit card on file.  That way if the bank funds are not available PayPal can hit your credit card to cover the transfer, and they'll go ahead and give the receiver the funds instantly.

If you don't have a valid credit card setup as a backup funding source then you won't be able to send instant transfer payments.

Your answer may be truthful, but it is not true. (Not accurate).

at this very moment I'm trying to figure out why I've suddenly started seeing echeck come up in my checkout options, while just an hour ago I paid for something instant transfer ly.

No changes in any of my accounts or Paypal settings.

It it is just a bit of a mystery and not so cut and dry as the explanations online seem

I'm beyond irritated with PayPal and the run around I'm getting on this E check stuff as well. The "make sure your account is up to date" excuse I'm getting is not the cause for this as I've been a PayPal user for years and all the sudden Sunday it starts sending echecks that WONT clear until tomorrow! Do you all at PayPal know how much of an inconvenience this is! I've called in, had everything scrubbed, up to date, etc and here it was just a few hours ago ITS STILL HAPPENING! To make matters bad - I just sent an instant transfer on Monday NO PROBLEM! I know how check process goes so please spare the explaination on this. Why isn't this "glitch" fixed yet when many have Been reporting this for years now?! things like this make me want to close my account with PayPal due to inconvenience !
