Funds are being held after successful ebay sale and item shipped to buyer.

I sold an item on Ebay and the same day I printed out the shipping label paid the postage packaged the item and shipped it off to the buyer. I also double checked that the USPS tracking number was entered on Ebay and on my PayPal account as well. I went to my PayPal account the next day and it informed me the funds that were from the successful sale were on hold for at least 21 days. Is there anything I can do to have PayPal release these funds to me more quickly? I have never heard of such a thing them holding your funds from a successful sale. If I call PayPal customer service can they release these funds?

Hello RaylnJackson,

Welcome to the Community! Smiley Happy

It sounds like your payment is being held for Funds Availability. Payments are held for up to 21 days or will be released 3 days after we verify that the tracking number shows delivery to your buyer.  So the payment will only be held 21 days if you don't provide a tracking number or the tracking number does not show delivery to your buyer.  It doesn't mean that you have done anything wrong, we are just holding the payment until we know that the buyer has received the item.

Here is some additional information on Funds Availability.

I hope this helps!

Funds are not released after tracking numbers, and delivery verification have been made...  In fact, I have seen on every transaction that I have made where the funds were held for a solid 21 days.

You can say whatever you like, but - Paypal isn't doing this for buyer protection, 21 days is far too long to hold funds - after all of the verification methods have been achieved.

It's a factor that has caused a lot of grief for sellers who are reprimended at every turn, by Ebay [who wants their money now], by Paypal [who holds the funds for that extra bank interest (no matter how small) ].

I'll change my attitude towards Paypal, when I see the [so called] 72 hour hold after verification has been made.

Until then - it's 21 days no matter what

I cannot say the above comments are always the case. I contacted Paypal the day following my shipment being delivered to the buyer, and Paypal released the funds for availability minutes later.

Now, trying to jump through the glitchy hoops of getting them moved in my bank account, thats a different story....

The buyer received the item and although the dimensions were clearly listed in the auction, she very rudely claimed it was "too big for her."  I knew I should just tell her to return it because the negative feedback she'd most likely leave would hurt me more.  I have a 4.9 Stars & 100% Positive rating.

Initally the buyer posted a UPS tracking number for the return, but the next day she voided it.  Unfortunately, by that time Paypal had the funds of $87 held.  I was able to get her to respond & she decided to keep the item.  This is a buyer with a feedback of 1, literally one.   There's clearly a language barrier as she doesn't understand that I need her to go into ebay & cancell the return process.  Until she does, the funds will be held and she has the item.

Does anyone know what the time limit is that the buyer has to prove a return before my funds are finally released again?

Am I wrong in that she can stop the return process?  I'm both a seller and a buyer and I never return anything.  I usually just re sell it.  Can I cancel the return?  I initially reported the buyer to ebay because she voided the return shipment & took a while after that to reply to my emails via ebay messaging.

I almost never have returns so I don't know much about this & haven't been able to find any concrete answers.  I will probably try to call paypal tomorrow.  Any help anyone can give is very much appreciated.  Thanks!
