Problem with Balance after Adding a Gift Card

Hello,

I've recently added a Vanilla Visa Gift Card to my paypal account. The gift card was verified, however my balance on paypal is at zero. Sometimes, online payments still work if the balance says zero as the amount will be withdrawn from the gift card directly. However, everytime I go to make an online purchase at two different websites, the order is declined.

I know I could've saved all this trouble by getting a moneypak, but I was in a rush and could not find it in the store.

I have linked gift cards to paypal and the pass and the transactions have worked smoothly--last time, it was an Amex gift card.

I would just like the gift card balance to show up on my paypal as it did in the past with my amex gift card. I know this is feesible, so I just need help..not someone telling me I should've used moneypak.

Thank You!

I need help, and I am not sure if I am in the right forum topic but...anyway. I bought a $50 Walmart Visa Gift card. I registered it at WalmartGift.com  (It asked for address, but never my name.) Now whenever I click "Pay Now" I get this error: You cannot complete this action on the card you have selected. Please select another card.

Please help...I don't want to have wasted my money.

Hi namone,

Welcome to the Community!

Without the name as part of the registration, the card will likely not work with PayPal. 😞

Hi ccede,

Welcome to the forums!

I'm sorry to hear that your Visa Gift Card is being declined as a funding source. This is something that will frequently occur, since most gift cards cannot be verified with name and address. Some card issuers do allow this feature. I believe Vanilla Visa may be one of them. If you set up an account on their website, you can register your cards to your profile, and they should be able to be verified.

Once a Gift Card is able to be successfully added to your PayPal account, it will be treated like any other credit card. The balance of the card will not show on the PayPal account. The actual balance of a third-party payment source is not information that is reported to PayPal by banks or card issuers.

If you're looking for a prepaid card that is designed to work with PayPal, I recommend the PayPal Prepaid MasterCard. It has a slew of features and benefits including cash back rewards, protection from unauthorized purchases, online bill pay, direct deposit, and more. It's also free when you order it online.

I hope this helps! 🙂
