Hello,
I'm having problems with paying for a transaction using my VISA Gift card. Paypal keeps saying it cannot verify my information. I spoke to the Gift card issuer and everything is fine with the card and it is registered with my zip code only. Why will paypal still not authorize the transaction? Can anybody help?

Hi ladilight and justlive67, and welcome to the forums!
I'd be happy to shed some light on the situation for you.
When a card is used to fund a payment, a verification check is performed to ensure that it is a valid card belonging to the account holder. It sounds like the gift card you have is not registered in your full name with your full address, which is likely why it is not passing that validation.
Prepaid and stored value cards frequently have this kind of problem. If the card issuer allows you to fully register the card with all of your information, that may resolve the issue. The name and address will have to be the same on your PayPal account as on the card. There may also be a delay time for the information to fully propagate to the validation servers, usually not more than a few days.
Please let us know how it works out! If this post resolved your questions, you can post a reply to let us know, or the original poster can click the "Accept as Solution" button.

Hello- I have only used Visa Gift Cards. Here's how it works. I personally prefer prepaid cards issued by, Vanilla Visa becz their fee is only $4.95 up to $500 on one card. Once you register your zip code by calling the 800# on back of card ( make sure that matches your paypal acct address too); add the new visa card to the paypal account; wait five minutes, then go to vanillavisa.com, check the preauthorization charge from paypal for $1.95. You will see the 4 digit code you need. Now go back to paypal & verify the card's code and within minutes you will have the $1.95 back in your paypal acount and can use that & the card to make payments. Hope this helps!

Hi rlblmac, and welcome to the forums!
Please keep in mind that while this process may work for obtaining the four digit code, issues with transactions may still arise. The name and address may undergo verification during the course of a transaction. If only the zip code is present, a card may fail this validation at a later date and become unusable.
If you're interested in a prepaid card option that you can use with PayPal, I'd suggest taking a look at the PayPal Prepaid card. The cost is the same, and there's the added benefit that you won't run into the problem of accumulating an excessive number of cards on your account, the way you might with multiple third-party prepaid cards.
