I don't understand why every payment I make through PayPal is shown on my bank statement as a recurring payment. It's frightening to think I'll be paying for an item over and over and don't want to have to check my statement daily to see if this is actually happening.

Its not a recurring payment.
When you set up banking as your funding source its sets up the direct debit mandate between your bank and paypal.
But the only monies taken are when you authorise it when you buy something.
eg i have £59 showing in my online banking but that is not £59 per month, its the last seller that i paid and that will change when i next pay another seller.
Advice is voluntary.
Kudos / Solution appreciated.
