Wanting to buy something from Kijiji. What protection do I have that seller will ship.

I would like to purchase something from a private seller on Kijiji and pay for item through paypal. I know seller needs to ship with tracking. But that does not mean much if they send an empty box. They are out $10.00 but I am out $350.00.

Tracking will be uploaded but  no item in the box.  You have to think of every scam these crooks can think of. I am not saying this person is a scammer but I have no clue who I am dealing with.

Item is a 7 hour drive so no easy access to a pick up.

Is there any safe method to do this through paypal. I know email money transfer through a bank does not cover things like this.

The best safety information is the honesty and integrety of the seller.  No one else can make sure the box contains the purchase item.  A payment service cannot protect the buyer from poor judgement errors.

This means that it is your responsibility to verify the integrity of the seller.  If there are doubts, then don't.

This means do a background search of the seller, including residential/business address, including viewing a map.

If you trust the seller, next step is to make sure the sends a detailed PayPal invoice.  The should include pictures and all other detials agreed, including method of planned shipping and costs.  An honest seller will be happy to send a REAL invoice.

If you do agree to pay the invoice, use a credit card rather than your PayPal balance.  A credit card will give you added protection.

I don't know the seller. Its a private sale off Kijiji.

I can check address against phone number provided, and name. Yes that would help some. Thank you for your help.

If you don't know the seller, then ask all the questions you can think of until you get answers to satisfy your curiosity and build trust.  You are your only defense at this point.  You call the seller and ask questions also.
