can't send money to email containing a dash character

I have attempted to send money to a recipient who has an email address containing a dash character (eg. foo@bar-baz.com).  The dash character is not accepted by whatever verification method PayPal uses and an error message is issued forth advising me to use a correct email address.  I've played around with this a bit and determined that any email address containing a dash in the domain name part will cause such a failure.  I've even keyboard mashed bogus email addresses without a dash and was able to proceed to the next step, but when I put a dash in the same keyboard mashed bogus address I get an error messagte and am unable to proceed.

Thoughts?  Advice?

Perhaps the nice people at PayPal should fix this problem?

Me too. I called and they offered a workaround. I can ask the seller to provide an alternate e-mail that doesn't have a dash. However, when you are making international payments dealing with multiple languages, that's really not much of a solution. If this generates negative feedback or cancels my transaction, I am not going to be a happy camper. The really amazing part of this is that the seller has a paypal verified email address. How does this stuff even happen?

Interesting FYI. If you can't send the money via the paypal website because of the dash issue, try the paypal app on your smart phone. I was able to complete my transaction that way.
