canceled payment problem

I'm not sure what to do about this. I sent a payment to someone on the 20th the very day they tell me they hadn't gotten it turned out the e-mail they gave me was wrong so I canceled it and sent a new one. well they received but when I checked my bank the money from the 1st payment had not been put back and the second one went through I decided to wait a day to see if it went through it hadn't and I then had an over draft because of it. according to PayPal customer service people who were not helpful, their policy is not to put the money back where it came from which was what I expected they put autonomy PayPal account amending inform me. so now I have an over draft fee because I guess I expected PayPal to do the logical thing. is there any suggestions as to what I could possibly do so I don't have to pay the fee I don't fell I should. this has never happened before to me and I have gotten refunds that went back to my bank.

I am going through the exact same thing. I have a email into my bank but was hoping to find some help here too. Please update if anything works for you.

Payments funded from a bank account and then later on refunded are placed in the account holders Paypal account.

Payments funded from a credit card and ,and later on refunded will go back on the credit card.

Also when you cancel a payment funded from a bank account, it takes up to 5  days to clear.

So even if Paypal was to change the policy, it still would have taken 2- 5 days for the original payment to clear at both ends, and then 2-5 days for it to go back into the bank account.

I am about to  have the same problem as the people above, except that I have not canceled yet.  I sent a transaction to a person's email address.  Turns out she uses another address for pay pal.  WHAT IF she set up an account with the address I sent the money to?  Would the transaction automatically go through?  Would I have to hit some sort of "retry" button to send the money to the newly created account?

Or is this a stupid idea?

I recently paid for an ebay item with my checking account when I had intended to pay with a credit card.  I realized the mistake immediately and cancelled the transaction.  I then paid for the item with a credit card.  Now I find that PayPal took the money from my checking account (even though I cancelled the transaction within seconds) and put it into my PayPal account.  What up with that?
