dollar general in store payment

I went to dollar general this wknd and saw they now offered paypal on their credit card machine. I asked the cashier how to use it... she had no idea. I decided to try it out. It asked for my mobile #, I input. Then it asked for passcode. I wasn't sure so I hit cancel. Then I came home, got on paypal and saw the mobile pin number. Since I had to use my mobile # I assumed that's how it worked. Later I had to go back for a forgotten item, hit paypal, input mobile number, then input the pin # I had set up. It came back an error, the cashier didn't have any idea what to do so I cancelled again. WHAT PASSCODE AM I SUPPOSED TO USE? Its become obvious dollar general added this feature and then did nothing to train their employees on it. I've now asked 3 different cashiers and none of them know anything about it.

I guess this is a new paypal service. As you can see it's only available a participating retailers. I tried to set it up for my paypal account but when I entered my cell phone number to get a confirmation code, it kept giving me the error "TRY ANOTHER MOBILE NUMBER"  It must still have bugs in it. Hopefully they will fix them soon so I can set it up.

My paypal instore checkout card finally arrived in the mail, I activated it, then tried it at dollar general, it (and my pin #) worked. Maybe I just needed to activate the card before my instore pmt account would work...? Either way, go to the link they listed, set up ur account, and request a card. Its free, and it works.

Used my Paypal account to buy a few things over the weekend... all i had to do at checkout was click the paypal button, enter my registered phone number and then enter my pin which i created on the Paypal account page. It all worked. Also used that same method for a purchase at Home Depot the same day. My card arrived yesterday, but it's nice to know I can do this card free.

I have tried three different times with the in store payment, and it never worked.  The first time I thought that since my PIN was four numbers and the Dollar General register asks for 8 that I would change that at home through the paypal site.  That didn't work the next week.  Then today I tried again, hoping to get that much-advertised $10 off $30 credit because that really would have helped out this close to Christmas, but again it didn't work.

I guess when the card comes in the mail I'll try it but by then the $10 offer will be expired, I should have chosen Home Depot or something!

I see where one lucky person got it to work, I had high hopes because the one I go to is next to the park where my friend and I walk, I would love to be able to go in there and buy a water or a snack or something without having to carry a wallet while we walk but I guess that won't happen until they figure it out.

Its not that hard... the 8 digit number theyre asking for at the Home Depot and Dollar General payment screen is the phone number you setup on the paypal account page. Once you imput a cell phone number. you can then set up a unique Pin number mine is 6 digits long because it seemed safer than just 4. Ive used the In store payment method 3 times so far. I am card free.  Just enter my area code and phone number then enter my PIN and it goes through fine.

I think you need to read the exclusions. You can't purchase gift cards. Also if your paypal is set to pay with bill me later that also wont work. My account was linked to bill me later and it bypassed the first payment option and took it out of my checking account when i made a purchase using paypal at Home Depot

just an fyi - I was under the impression this was an invitation only thing??? I got emails about subscribing to it, so I did then one day they sent me an email saying I was accepted. I have the paypal app on my phone (maybe that registers your number) and then had to go the accounts page and activate a phone number and a pin. It was a little confusing, but I have used it 5 or 6 times already with no problems. I get text messages each transaction too. The only issue I'm having is I added a "get $5 for spending $25" voucher at home depot, used it, but haven't got the $5 yet.

HERE'S THE ANSWER! I had the same problem at Home Depot. Just go to www.paypal.com/anywhere and follow the steps to set up a passcode.

Huge  THANK  YOU  !!!   to  "babyfoodie"  for including the www.PayPal.com/anywhere link in your comment!  I had trouble at Dollar General and the register kept saying the my PIN was invalid.  I Googled "How to use PayPal at Dollar General" and it brought me to the PayPal Community Forum.  Since "babyfoodie" included the link in his/hers comment, within minutes I was back in Dollar General and completed my purchase.  Again,  KUDOS to "babyfoodie" for sharing the link!
