shopping cart not clear after purchase

Hi

A customer is trying to make a new purchase from my site but was surprised that his last purchase (which did complete properly) is still in his shopping cart. Any ideas why this happens?

Thanks

PayPal relies on the use of cookies to track what's in your cart.   When you complete the checkout process, PayPal will clear the cookies however, as the process was not completed, the cookies will retain the information for up to 21 days.  The only way it will change is if you remove the items selected from the cart on the checkout screen or delete your web browser's cookies, temp files and history or complete the checkout process.  Else wait until the cookie expires.

THanks Snowshoe for your helpful reply. So if the transaction completed and cart did not clear, I should guess that it's a setting on the client's computer or just some glitch? There's not a setting that I need to make when setting up a new button that will assure that the cart does clear after purchase?

thanks

Hi Su,

Did you ever manage to resolve  the cart not clearing after purchase?  I'm having the same problem.  Works perfectly otherwise!

Hi,

I never got an answer to the problem and several more customers had issues so I switched from the shopping cart buttons to the buy now buttons as generally that works fine for us.

good luck

Winston - Were you able to find a solution to your problem? We are using PayPal Standard and are experiencing the same issue.  The most recent suggestion from a PayPal representative was to have the user manually delete the cache on their computer, but this is not a user-friendly solution. Ideally, the cart SHOULD be cleared after the purchase has been made. Any assistance would be GREATLY appreciated.

I am disappointed to say that I am having exactly the same problem. Customer purchases the item returns to the website and finds the cart IS NOT EMPTY!!! Did you find a solution to this?

OneLogic - Unfortunately, I have not found a solution yet. I has been working with PayPal for several days now and currently have a ticket/incident opened. Supposedly they have not been able to replicate the issue. I encourage you to open a ticket with PayPal as well and if you are able to find a solution, please share. I will plan to do the same...

Received an update from PayPal Merchant Technical Support today indicating that issue has been escalated to Developers. No timeframe was provided for issue resolution.

I also opened a ticket with them and refered them to your issue.

If you ever get a solution would appreciate a note about it.

Thanks
