I can understand them holding a payment if someone makes a purchase BUT a transfer of money to a family member to a family member I am extremely upset still on hold waiting for a supervisor and I can not wait to get that survey ~ earlier today my mom  transfered money to my dads acct there was a hold pending on it so she called and they immediately released the funds so they can be moved into the bank but when I sent my dad money they wont release it for 24 hours ~ this was my money in my paypal acct Paypal does not own my money been on hold for going on an hour this is PURE BS ~ although its non of their business what we want our money for we told them anyway. Ridiculous to say the least ~ will be contacting a visa rep today to get my own terminal or set up square I am sure PayPal will like that!

Its down to how the payment was SENT to your account.

1. If your family member chose the send money > goods / services option then paypal would see you as a seller and apply the new seller hold. They would also charge you a fee.

2. If your family member  had chosen the send money > family / friends option then you would have had the payment instantly.

You could try getting your family member  to call customer services and authorise them to release the payment sooner as it was sent the wrong way?
