I sent the buyer an invoice, he claims it is paid, however there is no receipt on my end. Is this common with new accounts?

NEVER send anything until the funds are showing in your paypal account.

You need to give some more info as this ''could'' be a wrong email issue OR a scam.

That's about all the information I have unfortunately. I listed an item on eBay, he offered me a price, I accepted.... then he claimed that he sent the payment but it's not showing on my end. He sent me a screenshot that says "you are sending "XXXXX" $$$" So I'm not quite sure what's going on

If no related payment transaction appears for this sale in your account, relist and move on.  And "You are sending $XX" is a big difference from "You Sent $XX". Smiley Happy

Did he complete ebay checkout? If he did then it would show as paid on your my ebay.

OR did he ask you to send an invoice.

If so that is what scammers tend to do.

Is the item to be sent internationally eg Africa etc.

Thank you both for your answers. He just asked me to send him an invoice, although he is in California instead of internationally.

Then it sounds like a scam  >>>>>>>>>> read the below types of scams so you are aware.

 A TYPICAL PAYPAL SCAM.

They encourage you to use paypal and often ask you to send the item as a gift to a relative somewhere often Nigeria.

They use hijacked ebay accounts and so never check out with ebay as they don't have a paypal account, they just ask you

to send them an invoice instead.

You will get/got a "fake" email that looks as though it is from paypal.....it isn't.

It will say the buyer has paid ...you won't have been paid.

They will tell you that the payment is released when you provide paypal with a tracking/shipping number......this won't happen.

If the item requires shipping they will tell you that they will pay you extra and you must pay the agent via western union / moneygram BEFORE the funds are released to you.

They are not interested in the item, they just want the western union etc funds and you will never see money in your paypal balance.

They also threaten legal action...have a laugh at that one and ignore it as its rubbish.

Paypal NEVER tell you to send trackable, they advise it for seller protection etc but it is not compulsory.

Paypal NEVER tell you to send an item before the payment is showing in your paypal account.

Paypal NEVER expect you to use a rival money transfer service.
