Hello..

Days ago, I bougth some things on eBay from US sellers, but when I saw my statement bank, I noticed they charged me a fee for the conversion of Brazilian Real to US Dollar...

I do not know why is happening that, when in my all other purchases in the past I never had been any problem of that tipe.

I do not know why eBay is charging in Brazilian Real instead in US Dollar...

I am a US Buyer, and I buy from US seller...

Thank you !!!

strange things are happening with Paypal, may be we are all going to join Republic of Brazil?

It was a US seller and he is US.  Just odd that there are several people all having issues with their transactions being converted to Brazilian currency.   Out of the 100's of different currencies, all the same problem.

He called Paypal as well and they found that his Bank of America card on file with PayPal was changed to Brazillian currency.  It was something he could not change. His PayPal account showed US Dollar.  They changed it back and said to not worry about it.  Probably some software glitches with all the changes they've been making lately.

Same thing happened to me yesterday (11-6-2016)! I'm in the USA and the sellers are in the USA. Has PAYPAL acknowledge this glitch where USA customers and sellers are being charged in Brazilian Real?

Same problem.  Spent hours on the phone with eBay and Paypal (separately), neither one would acknowledge the problem.  I had printscreens/screenshots/screen grabs, but neither side was interested in seeing.

My transaction was with a U.S. seller.  Listing was in U.S dollars.  I am a U.S. buyer and my Paypal account is in nothing but US dollars.  I refused to make the payment through my Paypal account since it was showing me in advance there would be a currency exhange fee into Brazilian reals.  I made the payment directly with my credit card.  However, as it turns out, Paypal still processes direct payments and my credit card was still charged a foreign currency transaction fee from BRAZIL!

I called my credit card company and put the amount into dispute.  Paypal has a problem here... I hope they wake up... I'm done with eBay and Paypal until this is resolved...

Today, I called first to eBay and they told me, they do not have any knowledge of that issue. So, then they transfered the call to paypal, and they told me that efectively thay have many complains of various users about the same problem, and that they are working to solve them. But while they gave 3 dollars as a credit in my paypal account.

I hope it not be the unique solution for this serious problem with his system, because between the fee of the foreing transaction that charged paypal first, and then my bank, was almost 6 dollars, and only "refund" 3 dollars... Taking into consideration what they were only three little transactions...

Paypal have a serious problem with his security.

While, if you have this issue, you have to call to paypal and tell about the issue.

Same thing is happening to me right now. Listed 2 BOA cards.

It tries to run one in Reals, the other shows up USD.

It's a substancial amount of money, so I don't want to risk conversion fees, and a forign purchase bank card fee.

Frustrating.

This is getting very frustrating. I already have three Paypal transacations which charged conversion fee-two through ebay and one through another online retailer, none of the parties involved have anything to do with Brazil. On top of that, my Bank of America VISA card charged me foreign transaction fee for two of those processed transactions. I am about to make another transaction on ebay and it does not matter if I use a different BOA credit card, it still indicate there will be a conversion to Brazilian Real. This is obviously a site bug with either Paypal or eBay. Now I have to waste my precious time to chase Paypal to get my money back and dispute the BOA foreign transaction fees.

The same thing is happening to me. I'm buying with PayPal from a vendor in U.S. The cost shows up in PayPal as $5.00 USD. PayPal wants to charge my Bank of America VISA card something like 14 BRL, along with currency conversion fees.  I and my credit card are based in the U.S. I'm getting text messages from Bank of America saying that my card has "a transaction outside the 50 states (U.S.).

My credit card is also a VISA with Bank of America.  I also received the same text message alert that a transaction outside of the US had occurred on my card.

I checked the transactions on my card today and the foreign currency exhange transaction has "gone away" - no trace of it - it was pending and never actually processed.  All that remains is the actual total eBay amount (cost + shipping), so that is a good thing.

After Messaging back and forth with PayPal customer service, and linking this thread for them (so that PayPal's eyes would FINALLY be opened!), I received the following mea culpa from them:

Thank you for contacting PayPal.

Please excuse the initial email. It was sent as an immediate resolution to your query based on the topic you choose on the web form. I am happy to assist you further.

I have successfully updated your Visa Card ending in x-XXXX currency to US Dollars.

We are aware of customers credit card currencies are changing to BRL instead of USD. We do apologize for the inconvenience.

PayPal Developer Team is currently engage in fixing the issue and we appreciate your extended patience.

Rest assured though that you will now be able to use your card having a local currency of US Dollar when funding future payment.

Thank you for understanding and being part of the PayPal community.

Sincerely,
Marcus

Thanks for posting. I have been experiencing the same problem since Nov. 2.

I suspected Paypal caused the problem since my purchases were from US online sites that were not Ebay, and I had
been using VISA credit card from Bank of America without a problem elsewhere.

I'll be using your post to ask Paypal to remedy my problem. Thanks again.
