Friend Sent Money the wrong way

So,  I'm collecting money from a bunch of friends for a golf trip.  They're all sending me a fixed amount via the Friends and Family option, so no charge.  However, 2 of the guys who can't seem to follow directions, sent me their money using the Pay for Goods and Services.  For these, I was charged $1.25.  I tried to refund the payment the first time this happened, thinking it would just cancel the transaction, and then he could send me the money correctly.  However, when I refunded the money, I was charged another $1.25 or so.  So, after all said and done, this friend got a refund of $47.  Now he's **bleep** because I asked him to pay the $3 difference.  However, I'll probably end up paying it, because he can't follow instructions.

Anyway, is there any recourse for when a friend or family screws up and send me money the incorrect way?

When someone pays you with a friends / family payment you pay a fee if they fund that payment via a CARD. Its only free if they fund it from funds in their paypal balance OR bank transfer.

So your friend may well have sent you a friends / family payment but used their credit card to fund it.

The reason i think this is you DO NOT get charged for a refund, when someone pays you then you get charged a fee BUT that fee is REFUNDED when you issue a refund.

When I received payment from both these guys, the details show

OK to Ship to with an address, it also has links for Shipping, Print Packing Slip, etc...

Also, a link to "Seller Protection Available" is in the details.

It looks like on the Refund, the original $1.75 fee was waived, but then I was charged a 'Fee Reversal' charge of $1.45.

So the guy was refunded  $48.55 of his original $50.
