How to "Contact Seller Through PayPal"?

Hi Folks,

I need to ask a seller about the status of an order.  The transaction page says "If there's a problem, make sure to contact the seller through PayPal."  How does one do that?  I see the seller's email and can contact them via regular email -- I am not asking how to do that.  I'm looking for the specific steps/links to use here on PayPal.

Thanks,

Shawn

You do this by contacting them through the Resolution Center..This is how you contact them Directly through Paypal and not just their email...Everything is on this page http://www.wikihow.com/Dispute-a-PayPal-Transaction

There isn't.  Only way is through PayPal email address of the merchant.  To contact merchant through resolution center is opening a dispute and putting the money you paid on hold.  Even the link/steps show that you're opening a dispute, not casually communicating with the merchant.

If you're just asking a question, you send email, you shouldn't open a dispute to do so.  PayPal 's wording is indeed wrong.

You have to use the email address shown on the transaction listing to contact him or if you have bought from his website, contact him there.'

if it is EBAY or another venu, use their contact method so the conversation would be recorded.

Paypal is a payment processor, not a social media site.

"Paypal is... not a social media site."  I was not under any such impression.

The only ocasion where a buyer will contact the seller via Paypal is open a case in resolution center, which is disastrous for the seller.

Yes, I know through the experiences of others that disputes usually go poorly for the seller.  This is not a dispute, FWIW.

Unless you are disputing the order either for Item Not Received, or Item Not As Described, stick to contacting the seller via regular email at merchant PayPal email address.  If you open a dispute and you are only making a routine inquiry about your order, it may interfere with your buyer protection rights later on as there are time contraints in a dispute case.

sharpiemarker:  "stick to contacting the seller via regular email at merchant PayPal email address"

That was the problem -- there was not any PayPal email address for this merchant, only their regular non-PayPal email address.

That's good advice for the future, but as I said above, I was not opening a dispute.  I was merely attempting to do what PayPal said, which was to "contact seller via PayPal."  Contact, not dispute.

Opening a dispute, which is what that link is telling you to do is not the answer to your question if you just want to ask seller about your order.  The dispute does have a way to communicate with the seller but it is linked to a dispute which you are not filing as of yet.  If you sent a payment, there should be a PayPal email address for you to contact your seller on the transaction details page of the payment in your activity page.  Did you receive a PayPal email notification for the purchase? Perhaps the email address is found there?
