I got scammed using facebook payment

Hi I was hoping to get some help in my situation or at least be an example to others in the pay-pal community.

Back-round: I found a part on facebook marketplace for about $700.It was well priced and the seller was well known in the community.I knew the part would sell fast because it was reasonable priced so after discussion with the seller about condition.I asked for preferred payment method. He told me facebook payments which I assumed would include some form of buyer/seller protection.I never thought the individual would try and scam me considering I had all his information because of his facebook profile. After sending the seller the funds over facebook payments through my mobile phone which didnt show me options for sending as gift/goods.He told me he would ship it out the following business day.The next three business days I get multiple excuses before the seller goes completely ghost. Its been awhile now and nothing from the seller so Im assuming hes not going to send me the item.

Payment:This was paid through paypal and my debit card but not with the chip or signature so it should've been handled under Visa's credit terms.

What are my options for getting a refund? Can I file a dispute with Paypal or should I just contact my bank? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I am going through the exact same problem now. I contacted Facebook and disputed through PayPal (I paid with my balance... bad move so I can't really go dispute with my bank). I also assumed there was buyer protection for using PayPal as the option for Messenger Payments. I definitely did not check off a "send as gift / friend / family" option. It is absurd but I hope everything works out. I'm extremely disappointed this happened.

I would definitely contact your bank.
