Money Sent - Pending. What does it mean?

I sent my friend £220 because he booked a holiday for us. Sent the money to him on 20th Oct via the 'send to a friend' feature. Today the 22ND October he still hasn't received anything. I checked my PP and it says; Money Sent - Pending. When sending the money I chose my credit card as the fund source. My question is; how long will this payment remain in pending status? I do not want my friend to be waiting long to be reimbursed for doing me a favour. Previously when I sent money to friends it happens instantly. The only difference in this transaction is that I am sending more money than usual and I used a credit card as source. Why would this result in a delay? And why did PP bot warn about potential delays before sending the money? And most of all, when will the money arrive?

You kinda answered your own question.  They are checking/verifying the payment source. Once they have finished, they will release the funds to your recipient.  PayPal very wary about what may look like cash advance.  It's a formality.

Thanks for your reply. I'm hoping that I can a rough timeframe so I can set expectations. So, how long will it take?

You're welcome.  How long has it been since you seen the pending on the transaction?  I would give it maybe another 48 hours and give customer service a ring if it's still pending.

For anyone reading this thread looking for answers, the recipient received his money yesterday. He told me that he thinks the problem was actually on his side. He hadn't used his PayPal in 6 months and his account needed to be verified. Once he verified his PayPal account the payment went through shortly afterwards. I hope that helps anyone in the same situation.
