Retry Payment?

Hey guys. So about a week ago I received an invoice for a product. At first I paid for it with my bank account, but I realized I didn't have quite enough in my account (poor college kid lol). So I asked for the seller for a refund and asked if  I can change my payment method. Paid by E-Check. Knowing it would take a few days to clear, I went to deposit cash the next day.

A few days later, I received an email saying the check cleared, but I also recieved an e-mail saying my bank declined my electronic funds transfer. I didn't think much of it because I received a refund from my first payment and my e-check cleared in my second one.

Now the thing is is that today I got a mystery charge on my bank account statement for a payment retry? I'm assuming this was from the first payment I made?  But the thing is that it doesn't show on my paypal statement, only on my bank statement. Anyone else ever have this problem? Anything I can do? I'll be calling paypal in the morning, just wondering if there was a reason this happened? Thanks.

Hi Unforgettable,

Thank you for your question. When a bank declines to fund a payment for insufficient funds, PayPal retries the funding a few days later. This is built in to the first request for the funds, and that process cannot be stopped. It's vitally important to know that you have enough funds in your bank account before clicking to fund a purchase with your bank, as that funding cannot be undone even if the transaction becomes canceled or refunded. Only after the re-presentment of the charge is it taken into account whether the transaction is active or canceled.

The same thing happened to me, i got a refund from the first invoice for paying through the wrong method and again today I got a Paypal Retry payment on my bank statement. Do I ask the seller for another refund how can i cancel this, the retry payment won't show up on my Paypal Statement either?

This happened to me too. Any update on how it was resolved in the end? Thanks so much.

I think the main point of what everyone was asking is "do we get our money back" or "is this a penalty charge". Thank you
