PayPal Here card reader

I got a PayPal Here card reader last spring (2014) and have never used it.  I now need to use it and I cannot get it to work.  I have tried using it on my Samsung Galaxy S5 and my Kindle Fire HDX.  Does anyone know if the reader is compatible with these devices/is there a new version of the reader I need to get/what do I need to do to get the one I have to work?

Welcome to the community.

I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble with the card reader.

Here is a quick checklist to help troubleshoot:

• If you are using iOS 7, make sure to update your microphone settings. Settings > Privacy > Microphone > PayPal Here > On.
• Make sure your phone is not in a case.
• Make sure your volume is turned all the way up.
• Make sure your Location Services is turned on.
• Make sure your Bluetooth is turned off.
• Make sure you have launched the app before inserting the card reader.
• Make sure you have slid the front part of the swiper down so it can lock on to your phone.

Are the readers compatible with my kindle fire 7 HDX?  I purchased it to be used with my Etsy and Amazon readers.  With Amazon's recent announcement of discontinuing their Register, I am looking for a replacement.

The reader may be bad, so call PayPal and talk to someone.  You can also get another free reader, in the U. S.

You could uninstall the app and then download the lastest version and try again.

The app recognize that the reader is inserted?

What exactly doesn't work?

I have used my PayPal Here Reader on both of those devices with no problem.  So, I would say that they are compatible.  I don't use it very often so things could have changed in the meantime.
