I just received the $24.99 chip and swipe reader to replace the standard plugin swipe reader that I have been using for several years now with PayPal Here. It pears with my wife's iPhone 7+ just fine but our iPad 2 does not find it. We are running ios 9.3.5 on the iPad (the latest that the 2 can use) and it doesn't want to see it in the blue tooth settings. Just keeps searching and searching. We are up to date with the current PayPal Here app also. Is the iPad 2 just too old?

Me too. I suspect there is a certain version of Bluetooth required. There is nothing published anywhere on this. This is really a pain because the only reason I bought it is the old reader kept disconnecting with the recent software upgrade, and their recommended fix was buying this new reader. If anyone knows what version of iPad is a minimum for compatibility it woud be helpful.

Update: Troubleshooted this issue on phone with a Paypal rep. They assured me it was compatible with iPad 2. So I tried it on another iPad 2. Still no luck. Then I tried it on a new iphone. No luck there either. They are sending me another chip and swipe reader. If the iPad 2 finally connects with the new one I will update here. There were no previous connection issues with the old style chip and swipe reader with the keypad, just this new smaller one.

Replacement arrives. Pairs perfectly with my iPhone 6s, but will not pair with either iPad2, despite assurances that they are compatible. I will be returning this and looking at other merchant providers.

Thanks for the replies, that has been our experience. It paired just fine with my wife's iPhone 6S and we have used it for many swipes and with the chip and it was fine, it even pairs and works with an old Motorola Atrix2 phone from 2012, but not with the iPad2. This little unit is made by another company for PayPal and Pay pal seems to know nothing about it in the real world.

I couldn't find ANY merchant that supports iPad 2. It was cheaper to just get a newer iPad and stay with paypal. I picked up a refurbished Ipad Air (1st gen) and its working fine now. If anyone from paypal tells you the iPad2 works they are lying. The rep even told me that HIS ipad1 worked fine. Lol.
