I ordered a used phone for 350$ and paid through paypal. The seller contacted me via text and told me that he will be shipping via fedex or usps with signature confirmation. I told him to send it via fedex and he gave me a tracking number the next day. Yesterday, I saw fedex tracker say "Out for delivery on fedex vehicle" at 7.30 am. I thought I will be receiving it soon and waited till noon. Then I went out for a few hours and was relaxed as the seller told me he had selected signature confirmation. I check fedex tracking in the evening and it says "Item delivered- left at front door"! I freak out, call fedex and they say signature wasn't required and item was just left at front door. I ask around and no one saw any package left at my door.
The place I live in is not a gated community, it's an open area with a lot of houses where anyone can come and go. I am new to US and I am not sure if it was stolen or was it an error by fedex. Should I bother filing a claim with paypal? I see that they have changed their policy of requiring signature confirmation for items above 250$ to 750$. Is there a chance paypal will help me out here or am I totally out of 350 bucks? I don't think the seller had any bad intentions or is trying to scam me. But I didn't make any mistake either and I was told that package had signature confirmation.
