Payment via Paypal made and received, vendor even confirmed via a telephone call. Vendor then refused providing the product unless I provided a valid Drivers License.
Not waiting for them to demand my SSN, I promptly filed a dispute. With quick and efficient dispatch, Paypal denied my claim citing to digital policy exclusions, etc.
Be careful, just because Paypal is being used, you are not protected from vendors such as this.

Hi Bugtussle -
Welcome to the Community!
I can completely understand your hesitancy in providing information like that, however this may not be as fraudulent as you may think. One of the problems that merchants who sell virtual items face is fraudulent buyers who use compromised PayPal accounts or cards to make purchases, just to have their profits ripped away when the legitimate account/card holder contacts us or their card issuer.
One of the ways to combat this would be to verify your identity before completing the purchase. If the name on your ID matches your PayPal account, it's far less likely that their payment will be disputed down the road. Now, if they do start requesting your SSN, that's a totally different issue and far more concerning. But I would hope that if you communicate to them that you're not willing to provide your ID, they would be more than happy to refund you.
