Scam from Shoe seller in China

Has anyone else been scammed by http://www.rekhsob.com/

I know I have been scammed; I'm currently working with the Paypal resolution team for a refund.  After reading some of the other 'scam' postings, I'm wondering if I will be successful in getting a refund.  Here's how the scam worked so far......

I see a legit website selling shoes.  Place an order for $120.00 paid thru Paypal and feeling pretty secure about the transaction because the seller's website uses Paypal.  I receive a 14 cent plastic shower cap sent to me from China in a small padded envelope.  I was racking my brain trying to figure out what was behind this.  Why did I receive a shower cap from this company?  When Paypal said they would refund my money as long as I returned the item I was sent.  I could use any shipping company that has online tracking.  My first stop was the UPS store.  They told me it would cost me $90.00 to send it via UPS with online tracking (a .02 lb envelope).  So, there's part of the scam......now I have to pay an additional $90.00 to get my $120.00 back!   If I decide that's just too much money and not worth it, the seller wins and gets $120.00 from me for nothing (oh, the seller spent 14 cents for the shower cap and whatever the shipping cost was, I highly doubt it was over $5.00 to ship that junk to me, but I have to pay thru the nose to send it back to China).

My next stop was the US Post Office.  The price is around $12.00 for registered mail w/tracking, but I have to find out today if the tracking is the 'online tracking' that the Paypal email said I have to use.

After reading some posts here, I realize that there might be more to this scam..........I saw  that when a buyer sent their merchandise back to China, it ended up sitting at a depot in China and the seller said they never received the merchandise back and Paypal didn't issue a refund because the seller never received the stuff.  I hope my claim doesn't end that way.

This dispute is not over yet.  I am currently working thru the dispute process with Paypal and I am going to try and send this cheap hotel give-away shower cap back to the address provided to me by Paypal.

I will never buy anything from China over the internet again.

I'm surprised that Paypal still does business with a website that scams its customers.

Is there somewhere that a warning can be posted about scams like this (besides this forum)?

Will Paypal discontinue dealing with a company that scams their American buyers?

Hi Olivia, Good to know that this widespread scam has been noticed and hopefully will be investigated thorougly. I gave the PayPal representative today and also last Friday enough details to look into, but today they seemed a bit more elusive. Now I know they can't discuss with clients what action they're going to take, but from the client's point of view it would feel much better to know that something will happen. I don't even know if PayPal Netherlands communicates with their US colleages, as you seem to know much more. There aren't as many complaints from my country as from yours. Well, I gave positive feedback in the survey, and will keep following these cases, bye for now, Alex

Thanks so much for the advice.  I just went through my 'envelope' of items and found that **bleep** shower cap and finally realized why someone 'paid' to express it to me from oversees.  So I went searching here and just called Paypal based on your advice and he just helped me.   Thanks again for taking time to post your experience and helping others like us.

 Dear PayPal customers,

I, too received the mysterious shower cap, which apparently provided "proof of shipping" enough for Paypal to dismiss my complaint. I hope PayPal will look into this scam.

Call Paypal directly.  They are extremely helpful.  I was pleased with the outcome of my situation.  I got the phone number from the Paypal website under the 'contact us' tab.  Good luck to you.

I did call as soon as I tracked the package and told them I was concerned that my dispute would be closed as soon as I receive the bogus item.

I am very satisfied with PayPal.  They refunded me the amount and case resolved today!  This is the first time I have been scammed online and I am thankful that I had paid with PayPal, otherwise this probably would have not been resolved or take forever if I had paid with a credit card directly.  I will now be careful of unknown websites and vendors especially outside of Ebay and those not within the Bill Me Later merchants.  I also will check the site Scambook which was very helpful in finding out that rios-shoes was a scam.

I thank you all for your input for helping me resolve this issue.  I am so glad I found this community Smiley Happy!

Please note that Shoes365buy and Shoesbuy365 are the same. One person fiiled a complaint under "Shoesbuy365", so it's not listed with the other complaints under the company's page on scambook. Just to let you know. (maybe it can all be listed under the same scam?) And: we've got ourselves a new victim...unfortunately. They're very slick, not very well known yet. Even though I've threatened with the police. Maybe not a very smart thing to do, but I'm furious, knowing my case will be closed at the end, living in Holland and all.

So sorry to hear that.  Have you tried calling them?  They are very helpful and know about the shower caps being sent out.

I too got scammed.   My shower cap cost me $159.80 USD.   I couldn't say enough good things about Paypal and how this was handled.

I urge everybody to file a complliant with the US government at ic3.gov.     If enough complaints are received the website can be taken off.

I wrote Clark's (shoes) and notified them of the problem.   My reasoning being that Clark's would have a lot more clout in having these scam websites removed and if their product was being used in the scam they would want to know.

These people were really slick.   I thought I was buying from a British company and they were really in China.

I'm sorry to hear you experienced this scam, but I'm really glad that your experience with PayPal in resolving it was a good one. Thank you so much for coming back to let us know!

Thank you also for reminding folks about IC3.gov. Here are some resources for learning about and reporting fraud:

I hope this helps! 🙂
