PayPal Scam on Craigslist

We're trying to sell something on Craigslist. Got a text from someone who is A. Not local B. Wanted to send us a check and said when it cleared he would send a mover for pickup.

We asked them to pay on PayPal, they jumped on that, and said they would send a mover immediately.

We asked them to wait until the payment had cleared with banks before pickup.

Didn't hear from him again last night. Thought we called a scammer out.

This morning we got a new text saying: Okay.

Is it possible there is any scam in giving our PayPal email out?

Is it possible that they could still scam us even if there is a wait time until this payment is verified?

So does this mean PayPal isn't safe either? How do you even sell if you can't trust? What if, once they add the money to your PayPal account, you withdraw all cash, then are they still able to reverse the transaction? And, has anyone else noticed these scanners don't speak English well? Does this mean they're possibly not in the States

PayPal IS safe but, PayPal WILL NOT PROTECT YOU FROM YOUR OWN BAD JUDGMENT.

You need to really understand PayPal policies and what buyer/seller protection really means.

Internet selling does have risks; you need to understand what they are.

For local pickups/delivery PayPal as an extremely risky option.  Cash is good.

Why use PayPal when cash can be used?

This is a typical Craig's List scam.  These scammers are very knowledgable about PayPal policies and they are very smart to user there knowledge to make money.  They look for inexperienced sellers who lack their level of knowledge and exertise and take the item and get a refund.

You need to become more knowledgable about PayPal practicies and become more savvy than the scammers.

Acheck would have been equally bad as scammers know how to use fake checks and also do stop payments weeks after the check clears.

The only low risk payment is CASH as time of pickup--NO EXCEPTIONS.

Thanks. Is it possible to return a payment, or does that cause more problems? We haven't received anything, but we did give them our email.  Feeling pretty stupid.

Sure.  If you receive a payment for goods you can refund.

If you receive a family/friends payment; it is a GIFT.

The scammer likely realized you were educating yourself would not likely go for thr scam, so he would not waste money by giving  you a gift.

OMG!!!! We are selling, or trying to sell, something on Craigslist also. This is exactly the thing we are dealing with, times 100! It's making me want to just take my stuff to the local shop and let it go for half it's worth. These same people will also send you a fake email from "PayPal " and ask you to correspond only thru email because the transaction is so fresh or new, PayPal call center wouldn't be able to help. Pretending to be a PayPal agent, they try to convince you that there is a problem with shipping and before they can add the cash to your PayPal account you must pay the movers fee thru Walmart2walmart and the buyer will then reimburse you everything including the cost of your item. Then when you refuse, they send another very legitimate looking email that says they have reported you to federal government and YOU are going to jail if you don't send the mover his fees. REALLY???!!!!!! how stupid do these losers think we, as Americans, are? BE CAREFUL
