Hello Community,

I was on instagram surfing when i saw a deal on an Iphone to be particular. At first i didn't trust the guy however since talking to the guy I gotten to trust him more. So far I've asked him to send me pictures, which he has completeted succesfully, i asked him for old customers and he rpovided me with their names and instagram pages so i could message them and ask them questions about their experiences, they have all said that he was good. He even provided me with his paypal account.

however i have heard many stories that some of these instagram sellers are fakes and i wanted to that If it was a scam and i was to pay through PayPal would i be protected if i was able to provide pictures of the chat i where we disgused the transaction containing details like how much the trasnaction was & what it was for.

Read the section on buyer protection in paypals user agreement so you can see how much coverage you have and can risk assess your transaction.

Legal agreements bottom of every paypal page > user agreement > buyer protection.

Purchsing an iPhone from a stranger on Instagram is extremely high risk.

PayPal will not protect the buyer from poor buyer judgement.   PayPal WILL protect the buyer for non-delivery; online tracking is essential.  As for "not as described" it becomes less certain; in that case it will be the buyer's word against the seller's word.  If you would win a case of not-as-described you would need to pay return shipping with tracking and hope the seller doesn't dispute the item upon return.

You should be absolutely certain you trust the seller and that you absolutely believe the seller would refund if there is a problem.

Here's some suggestion to improve your odds.

Ask for the name, addresss, and phone number of the busienss.

Research that business on the internet.

Ask pointed questions by e-mail to the seller.

Phone the seller and talk to a business representataive.

If you stll OK.

Make sure the seller provides a PayPal invoice with ALL product details, specifications, serial numbers, condition, and pictures (even with serial numbers).  The invoice should also include shipping method, procedures, and costs.

You need to first research the seller business and PayPal policies and make sure you are absolutely certain you will not rely on PayPal for any protection.

In business, a seller provides an invoice; the buyer pays the invoice.

Itis the buyer who sends the PayPal invoice; you, the buyer pays the invoice directly from a link on the invoice.   What is important, however, is the details.

You will be the one, in reality, accepting the risk of loss.
