Accept credit card payments over the phone

Hello, I have Website Payments Standard on my e-commerce website. However I have a customer who wants to pay via credit card. Does Paypal offer a service that would allow me to accept a credit card payment over the phone? I looked into Virtual Terminal but its a $35 monthly fee and I only get a phone order once every few months.

Hello there!

While it won't work for over the phone orders (the card must be present), another option you might consider is PayPal Here.  While it's still in an exclusive release phase in Canada, you can sign up now and as soon as we work through the waiting list (it's been very popular) to you, we could send out a card reader. 

With PayPal Here, you can manually key in a card to your smart phone without a monthly fee, but you will pay a higher per transaction fee. Again, this won't work for over the phone orders because the card must be present.

Virtual terminal can also be turned on and off as needed, but you would still incur the monthly fee for that month While it may not be efficient to operate in this way for just one customer, it may be an option to consider around the busier portions of your year.  If your over the phone orders are plentiful enough, it may turn out to be an added bonus for your business!
