Endless login loop - old phone number

Hi,

 

Hoping someone can help me here as i'm having quite a frustrating time trying to access my account.

 

I have somewhat of an old PayPal account (8+ years), created when I lived in the UK and using a UK phone number. Now that i'm living in the US this number is no longer active. I remember the user/password to my account just fine but then it goes through this 'Let's make sure it's you' phase where the only way I can verify my account details is with my old UK number... which doesn't exist.

 

Trying to get around this, I attempt to reset my password by going through the verification steps - code sent to my email, security questions such as mothers maiden name and place of birth - all of which are fine and I can reset my password. I was wrong to think this would let me into my account as I am still met with the same 'Let's make sure it's you' screen. Well, what did I just do if not prove it was me?

 

To clarify, I can change my password, but I can not access my account? Seems a little backwards to me as surely I would need access to my account in order to change any login info, no?

 

For additional enjoyment, when trying to contact PayPal from the website it seems I have two choices - email or call. Naturally I try for email first but in order to do that I need to login, which requires me to verify my identity via the previously mentioned steps, and there goes the loop again.

So... other than calling the support line first thing in the morning (Pacific time) is there a different way around this? Before I wrote this message I came across a similar post from 2014 which would suggest there is no other way but it's hard to believe an issue like this has been left unresolved for 2 years - very frustrating for your customers who might have older accounts, a new phone number or moved countries.

Updating this message as for some reason I am no longer stuck in the endless loop and was suddenly able to access my account -  thanks PayPal, I think. 

After I posted I decided to create a new account (with a different email) to get around the loop and with the aim of being able to do what I was logging in for in the first place. New account created and all verified easily enough, but when going to send money I get the message "We can’t send your payment right now. If you keep running into this issue, please contact PayPal."

 

If it's not one thing it's another it seems so 3 days later, now with 2 accounts, I am still unable to do what I was trying to do.
