Limited Account Purchases?

Hi,

I'm simply wanting to order a few things from Newegg and would like to know if those of us who have limited accounts may still use the PayPal service to purchase things? For your info, I am wanting to add the funds needed to my account with a MoneyPak, but I want to be clear on this BEFORE I spend the money on a MoneyPak.

Also, can someone clearly describe to me what I can and can't do on a limited account? Sorry, this is all new to me.

Thanks in advance!

Are we asking about removing your Account limits or has PayPal actually Limited your account.  It's two different topics.

If PayPal has Limited your Account for suspicious activity or some other reason, there's really not much you can do with it until the situation is resolved.  You should have been provided with a notice of their actions and information concerning how to restore access and/or use.

If you are referring to account limits, meaning you have no verified your account at this point.  PayPal may permit you to do one or two purchases however, after that, you won't be able to make any purchases or receive money until you have "verified" your account.

Bottom line, if purchasing from Newegg, it's not a requiement to have a PayPal Account as they do accept the following payment methods:

Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover

Preferred Account

Bill Me Later

PayPal

Newegg Gift Card

V.me by Visa

This is my first time using PayPal (just signed up), so yes, I am refering to my account not being verified (what ever this means). I've NOT provided any of my "sensitive" info, such as last 4 digits of my ssn and don't feel comfortable doing so. What I was asking, is if I MUST provide this info before I can apply funds to my account. I'm not selling or intend to sell anything, I simply want to purchase things online. I have no credit card and this is the only way I would be able to order things online. I just don't want to buy a MoneyPack then find out I can't apply the funds to my account.

Thanks for your quick response!

I just found where it says I am limited to $500 dollars a month sending/recieving on my account until my account is "verified". So, the way I am understanding this; is I can use the service as long as I keep it at $500 or less a month. Can anyone confirm this?

Thanks again!

There's a good chance you may run into unexpected issues.  For example, the system does display limits but, the information can be a bit misleading.  It will allow you to make a few transactions however, after that, you won't be able to do much until you verify your account.

Some additional details to be aware of.

All US financial institutions such as banks, credit card issues and 3rd party transaction processors such as PayPal are required by law to verify the identity of the person behind any and all Accounts into which money is collected.  This stems from the Patriot Act, Title III, Anti-money laundering to prevent terrorism where as institutions put into place reasonable steps to identify beneficial owners of bank accounts and those who are authorized to use or route funds through payable-through accounts.

PayPal takes advantage of the fact that you had to prove to the bank you are who you say you are.  Therefore, by linking and confirming your bank account, the background work has already been done and PayPal has now met the legal requirements to protect themselves.

PayPal's FAQs state: To Verify your PayPal account, just link your bank account to your PayPal account or be approved for PayPal Smart Connect or the PayPal Plus MasterCard®. (Note, the PayPal Plus MasterCard was introduced in 2001.  In 2011 the name was changed to the PayPal Extras MasterCard.)

From experience, we’ve learned that in order to use PayPal without limits, it best to link and confirm a bank account (checking account) plus link and confirm a credit card (not the prepaid type) or register your SSN # or do all three.  (Note, when you link and confirm a credit card, this acts as additional proof of ID, a backup funding source and allows you to do instant transfers verses sending eChecks or in the UK eCheques.)
