how to set up account for child

I've set up an account for my son and sent his account some money, which shows as a balance. He does not have a bank account or credit card to link to his account and I don't want to link mine to his account. I'd like for him to only have the limited amount of money to spend and be able to receive the gift money cards from family and friends to add to his account (like from Wal Mart). However, when he tries to make a purchase, it directs him to sign in to paypal, but then wants a credit card number with no way to specify the payment method or tell it to use his balance. Is it possible to set up his account this way without a bank account or credit card?

Assuming your account is verified meaning you have linked and confirmed both a bank account and credit card, you can then send funds to the student account.  Suggest searching Help section on Student Accounts.  You should find lots of info.

Login into your account (parent account)

Select the student account (Manage student account)

You can find a tab link - Permissions / notifications

Click on this link to setup your youth/student account.

PayPal may not ask for bank / cc when he has sufficient balance. There are several options for you to control student account (spending limit, notifications when he reach the limit and so on..).
