Switching my default payment method

I was wondering if there is a way to switch the default account from which my payments are taken. After checking for a PayPal account balance, PayPal currently takes the money from my bank account, unless I manually change it to my credit card, which is what I always do. To eliminate these extra steps, I would like to set my credit card to be the default after any PayPal balance. Is there a way to do this?

THANK YOU SO MUCH!  I spent a good hour trying to figure it out.  Your instructions were perfect.  The key is to get onto the "classic" site, which I couldn't do because even when I clicked "classic" and then settings, it took me to the new settings page.

Thanks again.  Your instructions for setting the default credit card were perfect!

Gracias.

Yay!  You're wonderful!   I spent forever trying to do this after a charge was sent to the wrong card because the website just used the default card instead of giving me the option of choosing one.  Thank you so much for posting the answer.  It really helped me out a lot.!

Thanks! I was able to change my default payment to my credit card! Hopefully this works and Paypal doesn't charge my bank account first!

I guess they don't want you to change the default payment method to credit card Smiley Wink

Setting Default Payment Method to Credit Card

Once logged into PayPal goto this link:

PayPal Classic Site

Click My Money on left hand side
Click Update next to the credit card you want to use as default
Click Edit
At top of page tick the tick box that says "Make primary card (optional)"
Click Save at bottom

Your chosen credit card is now you primary payment method.

Setting Default Payment Method for Pre-Approved Payments

For those who have a number of pre-approved payments that go out every month/year and want to make your credit card the default payment method for them. Follow below:

Again, once logged into PayPal goto this link:

PayPal Classic Site

Click My Money on left hand side
Click Update next to My pre-approved payments
Just above the list of merchants at the right hand side there's a link "Set Available Funding Sources" Click it
Then just untick any method you don't want to be used

Click Save at bottom

Now all pre-approved payments will only go through the chosen method (in my case credit card):smileywink:

@cannrobe - You are da man. THANKS.

Why the heck does PayPal make this so hard?

OK - They clearly don't want us to use Credit cards.

You know what - I don't really like using PayPal anymore then.

Any sites I trust now - I'll be using the direct credit card option.

PayPal can go and get brutaly intimate with themselves if this is the way they treat/trick/abuse their customers now.

Thank you for this... I also have been searching for days...

It seems the only change for default in the new site is for in store payments. I have updated my settings but my Paypal

on iOS is still pulling my Bank account as default. I will give it some time and check again tomorrow.

Will Update post when I test again... Again Thank you.

Thanks for clearing this up. Would a CC default payment method come into play only when there is not enough of a Paypal balance to complete a transaction, or would it be the default payment method for any and all transactions?

What's pathetic is PayPal reps don't even know how to tell you to do this.  I've called repeatedly.  Thank you!
