Ebay won't link Paypal account

Hello, I am trying to link my PayPal account with Ebay. When I click on "Link my Paypal account" button in the Ebay settings it takes me to a login page. So I login to my PayPal account but then it takes me to a PayPal sign up page. When I try to sign up, it tells me my email is already in use. Duh. This account is a Student Account, and was just opened today if that has anything to do with it. Thank you very much for any information you can provide!

OK, tried all the above, lots of guessing, all failed. But I did find a way to connect the two. Delete your PayPal account, and let EBay recreate it while 'linking'. When linking to PayPal from EBay, ask Ebay to 'Create new PayPal' account for you. It seems to just recreate the same account (same EMail, addr, phone, etc). This seemed to finally work. The issue is with PayPal.

One odd thing EBay sends first Address/Name/Phone you ever entered (Addr1), even if that addr is no longer the primary address. But now for what ever reason Paypal will not let me set back up the Two-factor authentication signon with text mgs code. The recreated account will not complete some updates, keeps looping on update action to 'confirm' mobile Phone#.

Update1: Logging into PayPal account via EBay (at 'link-to-Paypal' EBay page), seems the only way to update Paypal account to  'confirm' my Phone#, but I still can't get SMS security working yet, will not save. EMailed Paypal to explain. This is way to hard, and to many hidden pages, and pages with 404 links. PayPal needs a QA team, and a team to help design the workflow of screens.

Update2: PayPal tech is saying SMS Security Keys are all down or going down for Paypal. He says some system when down this weekend that supports this security and no timeline to fix. As such he says this extra layer of security is not available until further notice and he can't fix - told me to try in a few weeks or so. Said to just be extra careful instead. Huh??

Update3: So SMS Security is not down, he's full of **it. I can use the same phone# and receive the same type of SMS texts from PayPal to 'Confirm' when adding the phone, I just can't register it for SMS security logon. But I can register another totally new Mobile for SMS security long it works just fine. However if I use a phone already registered to another account she no work agian. This is not a Phone or Carrier or SMS Service issue with my side, this issue at the PayPal end. The same phone can't be used for SMS security logon for two accounts. And they are not handling it well though the Web interface, and not deleting the security profiles when an phone or acocunt is removed. In fact they the page hangs. They need to clean up and delete the Security profiles of the phones no longer attached to PayPal accounts.

Same issue here after changing my Paypal primary emaila address. I don't understand how the developers **bleep** this integration up so badly.

A few months ago, the eBay-link-to-PayPal login failed numerous times, although regular PayPal logins with the SMS 2nd factor authentication feature enabled, worked.  Eventually, the eBay-link-to-PayPal logins failed to such an extent, that PayPal thought my account was being hacked and temporarily locked my account.  The next day my account was re-enabled, but by then the eBay item I wanted to buy had been sold.

Today, a similar thing happened for several login attempts, but this time (due to messages here) I disabled SMS 2nd factor authentication.  After that, the eBay-link-to-PayPal login worked, and I was was able to complete the eBay-link-to-PayPal process and buy the eBay item I wanted.

I have left the SMS 2nd factor authentication feature disabled, until PayPal gets their login functionality fixed.

I've been an ebay member since 2003. I haven't been able to pay for purchases on my phone for almost a year now, it's extremely frustrating. I tried to unlink & then relink my paypal account to resolve this, but it hasn't worked. Now I can't even bid on certain items unless I have a paypal account linked to my ebay account. When I click on the "Link My Paypal Account" button, it brings me to a paypal login page. After entering my login info, I am prompted for my security key. After I enter my security key, it brings me back to the paypal login page & the cycle just keeps repeating.

I was finally able to get my paypal account re-linked to my ebay account. After getting caught in the loop, I changed my paypal password. Then on my ebay page, I chose to create a paypal account. When I tried to create a new paypal account under the same email, I got a notification that I already had an account with that email, but to log in to my paypal account. I logged into my paypal account and when I went back to my ebay account page it showed that my accounts were linked. I am now able to bid on auctions that require a paypal account be linked. The weird thing is that through all this, I was still able to pay for my ebay auctions that didn't require a paypal account be linked. Anyway, hope this works you guys.

I've tried several times -- unsuccessfully -- to link ebay to paypal.  Links from ebay to paypal don't work and you get caught in a "loop".  I tried a different route today and wanted to share in case it may help someone who wants to purchase from a buyer on ebay who only accepts paypal and you're required to have your accounts linked.  I logged into paypal and chose the "shop" tab, told paypal to search for the store "ebay" and then clicked on ebay when it came up.  The ebay page loaded, I searched for the item I was interested in, entered a bid, and it took me through the "you must have a paypal account" routine and I was then rerouted to paypal where I had to sign in again and then clicked on the "return to ebay" button.  I received a message that my accounts were now linked, and I was able to place a bid.  I have not tried again to purchase something else from a different seller who requires paypal as payment, so I'm not certain if the link will remain.  However, worst case scenario, it is a workaround if you truly need an item and don't want to miss out on bidding for it.

I too have had this problem.  I did all of the suggestions with no avail.

However, I did get it linked.  I went to My Ebay, Accounts, set up automatic payments.  I just followed the prompts from there then went back ebay.  It worked.  I now am linked and first auction out

Had trouble with this today, but managed to get it working by disabling 2 Factor Authentication (Security Key) in my PayPal settings. It looks like it causes PayPal to forget what it's doing after it sends the SMS. I'd say that the blame for this one unfortunately falls on PayPal
