Suspicious text message

Nowhere on the PayPal site or phone menu is there a reference to suspicious TEXT messages, only emails. So this is my only way of checking a text message I got telling me I had made a payment (amount specified) to a company I hadn't. It offered a link to click on to cancel the activity but that just led to "muncietreeservice, com - a site that appears to be problematic, maybe malicious (bitly comment).
Has anyone else had this experience? Thanks

Glad to know I'm not alone, but I have the same question as you - how do I know if it's a scam? Let's see if anyone else posts with the same story. I'm assuming it is. Thanks for replying.

Looks like 4 of us so far have the same experience. Maybe PayPal could check this out/include suspicious TEXT messages in their menus so we can check directly? Thanks for replying everyone.

I've had this, this morning. Text message says I've made a substantial payment to a company I've never heard of. I clicked on the message and just got a bit.ly link that I didn't click on. I've deleted the message and assume it's phishing/scam. I checked my Paypal account and all is well there, with no pending payments or anything showing - I haven't used it for a few weeks. I'm not sure, but I don't think Paypal usually sends text messages does it? Always email. Suspect it's a scam. I don't know how we refer this on to Paypal - does anyone else?

I am very concerned that Paypal do not seem to consider this an issue as they provide no way to report or check on this type of fraud. It seems to me they have a serious gap in their security system. Its not an uncommon method fraudsters use so it not surprising that paypal users are being targeted. What does surprise me is paypal's lack of interest.
The big question raised is has paypal been hacked to get user names and phone numbers. If so what other information have the hackers gained ?

Yep. That's same as mine. Maybe random. But it clearly has phone numbers. How do we report it?
