I don't want to give Paypal my bank account number.

Hello,

I started a Paypal account a couple of years ago.  At that time, all I had to do was register and add a credit card number to my profile.  When that card expired and I wanted to add a new card, Paypal wanted me to "get verified" and wanted my bank account number.  I don't care how safe Paypal's encrption is - I don't want to give Paypal my bank account number.  I don't even understand why they want it.  Paymate doesn't want my bank account number so why does Paypal?

What is wrong with you people? What do you have against PayPal having a copy of your bank account number and a copy of your driver's license? Don't you want them to have more money in their pockets?

All they will do is to forge a copy of your driver's license, but with a photo that will match the person who uses it to steal your identity and money. With the driver's license and your bank account number, they can also get access to your social security number, asset records, marriage records, or your death certificate (if you are dead).

Just cooperate a little. They enjoy money, too--anyway they can steal it!

I started using PP many years ago as a means of protecting my financial information.  All that was required was a CC.

Now they are requiriing either a bank account number or their credit card.

From reading around these forums, it appears the requests for your information don't stop at a bank account.  Others have been asked for their social security number and other information, including driver's licence, etc.

Of course when you sign up for their credit card, they will run a credit report and get all your information anyway.

By giving an online business like PP ALL my information, I am running a HUGE risk that my information can be stolen.  I really don't care what efforts PP goes through.  Giving PP this information defeats the original purpose of using PP in the first place.  I may as well give my limited CC account # out to merchants.  I have no reason to trust PP any more than VISA.

It seems ridiculous that after many years of using PP, and (apparantly) almost $10k in transactions, they decide to not trust me, yet insist that I trust them.  This is ridiculous.

If it is truly a Homeland security issue, show the evidence.  Otherwise it's just another reason not to trust PP and use other methods of transferring money.

I won't give Paypal my bank account number &  I don't want another credit card.

I have been satisfied with Paypal for years. I use my account to pay for items online only. I like the security of not having more personal info out there than necessary - (The purpose of Paypal).  I trust my acquaintances - but not with my life savings,  or my identity.  I have reached the spending limit. I will miss the paypal services. I hope  there is some alternative verification in the works.

I dont have any problem with paypal having my bank account details for my withdrawls ONLY, but here in UK no company is legally allowed to force or blackmail you to set up direct debit bank funding against your wishes, or hold on to your money against your wishes. I know that the 21 day paypal hold issue has legally been overturned here by the uk financial ombudsman as it is actually an illegal act by paypal in the uk.

I agree there is a real safetly risk with giving any single company too much info regarding your finances. ONLY YOU choose how much to give.
