To start things off, My wife and I occasionally use paypal to buy stuff off the internet. Recently I bought a set of used tires for my Trans Am. The guy claimed they had about 80% tread life in them. Well I bought them, received them, and these tires were BALD. Immediately I called paypal, they told me to work it out with the seller first. I called him and he told me they were supposed to look like that. Now I know they are drag radials, but they are street legal, hence that have a DOT number on them(DOT = Department of Transportation) So anyway after that I take them to a Nitto authorized dealer, take photos of the tires while I am there (Still wrapped in original Fedex packaging), get an invoice from the dealer proving that those tires were bald and had no tread left. Get home, call paypal up and offer photos and copies of the invoice and they tell me that those cannot be accepted because I could have made them up. Then they cancel my claim saying they are slicks. Slicks are NOT street legal, they have no tread, and they have no DOT number. They only have holes to show how much rubber compound is left in the tire.

So blah blah blah, on to the juicy stuff. As I am sure I am not the only one here, My wife and I share the same paypal, as we have a joint bank account. 1 bank account between both of us. She had set it up years ago. Anyway, of course every time I called paypal with questions as to why the **bleep** they denied my claim I had to let them talk to my wife and let her give them permission to talk to me. Pain in the **bleep** but that's not a huge deal. Well I got this thing taken care of with the guy I bought the tires from, No thanks to paypal..Anyway A couple days later paypal sends me this email saying they need more proof of account ownership. They want a PHOTOGRAPH OF MY SOCIAL SECURITY CARD, MY DRIVERS LICENSE, AND A UTILITY BILL.!!!!!!!!!!

Here. I took a screenshot of it...

PAYPAL ARE YOU STUPID!?!?!?

Maybe you want my social security card so you can bring some of your phone reps from India into the United States. What are you going to ask for next, My Birth Certificate???Oh wait, that's covered in proof of SSN, Birth Certificate has the social security number on it.

How Dare You Paypal. Close my account I don't give a **bleep**. **bleep** will freeze over before I give you photographs of my Social...

Realx.  I understand your frustration-- But how can you expect paypal to be one hundred percent sure if they are just an online company?  They are not your actual bank.  You need to take a deep breath... Count to ten... And then send in a pay stub, its that easy, you can get a pay stub from your working pay check even if you get direct deposit from your employer, the best part of that is that it doesnt show your social security, it just verifiy's that youre legit-- paypal isn't provided access to certain government files such as social security and veryifying your legitimate existance without your help.  A copy of photo id with the rest of the required information is not so bad if you send in the pay stub, for one thing, nobody is going to be able to do anything with your id based on just a photocopy-- nothing bad can possibly come of that in combination with a pay stub.  I believe that there is even a type of paperwork that you can send with with the signature of a bank teller-- as they are government officials in a sense.

I hope this helps!

Hey, go ahead and send them a photo of your Social Security card BUT FIRST take a photo of your Social Security card, get some white out and change any of the numbers you want or just white out all the numbers and then send them a copy of your Social Security card without your Social Security number.  You posses a Social Security card thus, according to what PayPal is saying, you are legit.

I am beginning to hate PayPal.

That would be very foolish.  Then you have to pay for a whole new card.  Not worth it-- You have to wait in line at a place all too similar to the DMV.

I checked a pending dispute and discovered Paypal fabricates dispute events to justify its payment hold!

First, they determined the buyer was right based on their word with no other proof than "it doesn't work". in 2-3 days.

I even sent screenshots of the item working.

I responded to the dispute twice to deny a full refund. If a part is incompatible with the buyer's system, when has that ever been held a store's fault?

According to stated policy, a dispute cannot be escalated to a claim beyond 20 days. Nov 1 to Nov 29 last I checked is definitely over 20 days. You can search online and find other customers have the same complaint. Paypal doesn't stick to its own policy statements. A number of people had their disputes held open beyond 20 days.

There was no response from the buyer for over 20 days since the dispute opened. Paypal stated "This dispute will be closed Dec 2 and holds released if no response is received." On Nov 29 after Thanksgiving, I saw no response still. On Dec 2nd 2am, I checked my account and Paypal had ERASED my comments and action history, and entered a FALSE RECORD saying this was escalated to a claim Nov 14 - weeks in the past.

Furthermore, there is no more indication of an automatic closure! So my item may never be returned, and the funds sit endlessly in "escrow", where Paypal is not a licensed escrow service.

Please carefully read my original reply!  If you take a picture or copy your social security card using your printer and then use white out on the COPY  you will have not changed your original card in any way.

Next make a copy or take a picture of  edited COPY  #1 that you used the white out on.  You still have not changed your Social Security card in any way!

Now send the 2nd copy, which will not show your Social Security number, to PayPal.

Put your original Social Security card back where you keep it.  It remains unharmed and unchanged.

Well they locked down my account so I had to create another to post any replies. They were fine with the information they had on me for years, and now all of the sudden they want a photograph of my social security number. If they had asked that in the first place there is no way in **bleep** I would have ever signed up with paypal in the first place, and I am sure 90% of the other people who create paypal accounts would feel the same way. Nothing has happened with my account to ever lead me to believe that someone was trying to hack my account until paypal sent me an email wanting EVERYTHING about me and my wife. I am supprised they didnt ask for my **bleep** bloodtype or a photo of my fingerprint. They want all the information about me that makes me ME. Thats whats wrong with people nowadays. Someone tells them to do something and they do it and not think twice about it. Again, its going to be a very very cold day in **bleep** before they try to scam me out of my identity...

Hey, im in the same situation as you right now.

Ive had paypal for a while now and no problems.

I sell stuff over the internet/ebay and i have 100% positive feedback, never and issue.

Then the other day, i thought it would make my life easier, if i had a paypal debit card.

My fiance has one and he said it was quick and easy to get one, no problem.

So i applied.....and geuss what happend....first i was rejected.

When this happend i was confused and had no idea why.

Then i was sent another mail saying, "we could not prove your identity with the information given on your debit card application, please send us Poto ID and SSN for proof of identity."

Just the other day they i gave them my SSN, so how am i not legit?

Why do they need a picture of my freakin card.

They know how unsafe that is, and they never NEVER use to ask for that kind of stuff.

They say their site is "safe" but what they are doing now doesnt make me feel very "safe".

I'm in the middle on transactions/orders and they are now trying to limit my account.

From what i read, "limiting a acount" is where you can do everything but close your account.

How does this make any sence?

You dont bealive my identity, so, you limit me by letting my continue doing what im doing except closing my own account?

I use to love paypal and now its getting really annoying latley.

I even sent an e-mail with concern of why i dont feeel safe giving info out like that, and they didnt even help/ answer my questions. It was as if they copy and pasted what i read before , and just kept stating "We need your information".

It even said at the bottom "dont respond to this message" how is this helpful!?

Not only this but has anyone else found it a pain latley that paypal all of a sudden starts charging us for every transaction we make? They never use to do that. Ebay takes a nice bite out of my profit as it is, i dont need paypal joining in...
