Adding a building society account to paypal instead of a bank account

Does anyone use a building society account on paypal instead of the tradition bank account?

I'm trying to add my building society account to my list of banks from "My Account>Add Funds>Add Bank Account" and then fill in the account details.

However my building society does not have particular account numbers for individuals. They use a holding account from Barclays bank. I have the sort code and account number for this and a personal identifier known as a Roll Number, that is specific to my building society account where my money is held.

This Roll Number would be required to deposit and withdraw funds from it, otherwise paypal would only be able to identify the holding account of Barclays.

Please note at the top of the page after clicking "Add Bank Account" it does say

"Add a Bank/Building Society Account in the United Kingdom", so it must be possible. Do all Building Society's use Roll Numbers instead of individual Account Numbers.

At the moment, not all building society accounts can be registered on the PayPal website.

I'm not sure if you will have the ability to register your building society account to your PayPal account. Your best option would be to try contacting your bank and ask them if your building society account can be registered on PayPal.

If you let them know that you only have the option to enter an account number and sort code. You should also ask them if the building society can receive electronic funds transfer's (as this is the way that we would send funds to your building society account). If you are trying to confirm the building society, we would activate a direct debit between your PayPal account and building society account, so you should also ask the bank if a direct debit can be activated with the building society account.

I hope this information helps with trying to get your building society account linked to your PayPal account.
