"Please check your card number" trying to add new VISA debit card -failed

I have a new Visa Debit card because I changed banks and I have tried numerous times to save my card details in the Wallet, but it always asks me to check card details and try again? All the details are correct (I have even went as far as to copy and past the card number from Amazon because it worked fine on their site). I have tried on different computers and on my phone to add my new card details, but I have had no luck.
My new Visa Debit card works fine for online purschases on other sites, and in stores etc, but I'm just at a loss to understand why it won't save/accept the details? I deleted my old Debit Card information before I tried to add the new card.
The bank called me after I emailed them the issue and they INSIST it's a PayPal problem, not the card or their system.
I enter the first 4 digits on my card and it selects the VISA option, as expected, I enter the next 4 digits, and it selects the MasterCard option... which my card is not. And every 4 digit pair following that continues to register the card as a MasterCard in their system, and then when I try to hit the link card button after entering all of the information, security code, etc, then it tells me to check the card number.

I've emailed PayPal several times over a week period and each time when I send the email, it says they'll respond within 24 hours, but nothing has been returned. Starting to get peeved.

I know this is an old post but I just figured out how to fix it. You type in the card number eithout any spaces as one contintuous number. Hope this helps.
