USD payments into PayPal.co.uk

I have a problem which may simply be due to my poor understanding of currencies and international banking.

• My account is with PayPal.co.uk and is in sterling.
• I recently withdrew a sum in USD from my account with Linden Labs - the operating company of Second Life.
• However it It has not appeared in my account.
• My specific questions are:

1. Would it automatically get converted into sterling?
2. If not, where would the money have gone?
3. Or do I need to have a separate USD PayPal account?
4. If so how would I set one up?

Hi there Christopher2030,

Welcome to the Community!

Firstly, if you are using a UK PayPal account, you can only withdraw funds to a local bank account in GBP. If you have a US bank account, it can be added by customer services to your account so that you can withdraw US Dollars to the US bank account. 

If you are trying to send funds from one PayPal account to another in US Dollars, the funds would appear in your USD balance on PayPal once you have USD added as an additional currency on your account. This can be done by going to Profile, then my Money, then Balances. If you have a UK PayPal account and only have GBP as a currency, our system will automatically transfer the USD to GBP and then credit the funds to your account.

Unfortunately it doesn't explain why I can't see a payment into the account. From what you say the USD payment would have been automatically converted into GBP, the only currency I had a balance for. (I've added USD now, useful to know that).

I will have to contact Linden Labs and find out what is the delay.

If you cannot see any payments pending or waiting to be accepted when you click on history then I would suggest contacting the merchant for further information.

I have a UK Based Paypal Account

It is set up to accept Sterling and US Dollars

I want to get my US Dollars out into our UK Based US Dollar bank account  how do I do this? We also have a US Based US Dollar account if that is easier
