Fees for Charities

Hello all,

I wonder if somebody can help me.

I'm doing some charity work and my client wants to take payments online. Does anybody know where I can see the fees for receiving money via PayPal, i.e. as a registered UK charity, would there be any discount over regular account?

Thanks,

Nick.

Are these donations to a charity or are you selling something?

Hi kernowlass,

Well, they;ll definately be used for one-off donations but also to buy tickets for charitable events such as an upcoming charity ball, maybe that constitutes 'selling something'?

Thanks,

Nick

OK if its donations then the people donating the money can send the donation without charges this way.

Get them to click on send money but to click on the personal and not purchase tab > then select the gift option and as long as they fund the payment with their bank accounts or paypal balance and not a debit or credit card then there are no fees charged.

If you are selling tickets then that is a purchase, not sure if paypal give reduced fees for charities don't think so but keep checking back as moderators check every thread and if i am wrong they will correct me.

OK, cool - thank you for that.

Will a 'donate' button route people the right way instead of having to instruct them to make a personal payment?

Thanks again for your help.

Nick.

Hi there EPPC,

Yes, if you are a registered UK charity then I would suggest adding a Donation Button, here's how:

  1. Go to www.paypal.co.uk and log in to your account.
  2. Click 'Profile' near the top of the page.
  3. Select 'My selling preferences'.
  4. Click 'Update' in the 'PayPal Buttons' section. From here, you can create and edit buttons.

Just to note, you will be required down the line to verify that you are a registered charity and may be asked to provide us with documentation.

Siobhán, that's great - thanks,

So, just to confirm - donations won't incur fees on either side?

Also, what about purchases, such as the ball tickets, will any fees be incurred for these and if so, what are they likely to be?

many thanks again,

Nick.
