Why are my payments for non-eBay sales pending and how can I prevent this?

If you recently started to sell with PayPal and you don’t have any selling history with us, payments you receive (except eBay payments) are now being placed into your pending balance. As long as there are no problems with the transactions, you’ll have the money within 21 days.

Typically, you can access these payments within 7-14 days if you:

  • Send the item to the buyer’s postal address, as shown on the Transaction Details page
  • Mark the item as sent on the Transaction Details page and provide the dispatch details (for digital goods, mark the item as processed on the Transaction Details page).

Once you complete the below requirements, you won’t be considered a new seller any more, and you should receive future payments sooner.

  • Receive a predetermined number of payments
  • Wait a predetermined number of days from the date you received your first payment.

You can also view your remaining requirements and confirm your identity at any time by logging in to your account and visiting the Resolution Centre.

Its **bleep** that you pay within 7-14 days after a dispatch!

When i put the tracking number or mark it as "processed" i need to wait mostly 30 days and sometimes more.

It´s not normal to work with other peoples money like this. Serios is a different thing!

Cheers!

Hi MenStyle1com,

welcome to our community and thanks for reaching out to us 🙂

It takes 21 days for new sellers. You can access the payments sooner if you follow a few steps:

  • If your order is for an item that can be shipped, and we can confirm delivery, your payment should be available 3 days after delivery confirmation.
  • If your order is for an intangible item that can’t be shipped, mark it as processed on the Transaction Details page. We'll calculate the expected delivery date and release the payment 7 days after that date.

We understand that not having immediate access to your payments is inconvenient, but we carefully consider several factors when we made this decision. Here' the link for further information.

Hope that helps. -Emilia

Please can you tell exactly where this money sits please, because it would be millions and well it has to be in some account and well someone is making a lot of interest of of it. And that some one is not the person the money belongs to. There needs to be flashing warnings and I mean big flashing warnings not tiny little print to warn people that you will keep there money in your account earning interst for you for 21 days.

No other business on the planet could do this keep peoples money from them when it dosnt belong to you at all, it has to be classed as stealing.

Sorry but I have nearly 4k earning you interest at the moment and I am furious. Never again PAYMATE dont hold money. They are happy to get there percentage and thats it.

Tell us all where the money sits because I think there is a good case for a full investigation into the secrets behing Paypal pending money making scheme.

I tried doing what you (PayPal_Emilia) suggested to MenStyle1com for my account which has the same problem as them.

I followed those suggested steps, and called paypal who confirmed all the transactions were genuine and that the order had been shipped and received (virtually that is; it relates to time-costs being invoiced).

Despite knowing full well that I'd done everything, the customer was happy, the transactions were genuine, and that I had a proven track-record on my other paypal account, paypal still refused to release the money for several weeks.

Your answer about "several factors" being taken into account is not true - paypal are simply keeping other people's money to earn interest from it; it's a scam.

Same for me, it is a money making scam by Paypal I think and I dont even know how in the world it is legal to do this. The must literally have trillions sitting in pending eraning enough interest to feed a small country.

I have one thing to say PAYMATE they donot hold money at all.

I have the same problem.

I don't sell anything on ebay, I just use paypal as a way of my clients sending me cash (I'm a web developer; my customers pay in arrears for services/time that's already been completed).

I have 2 paypal accounts, and was trying to get my customers to pay on the new account instead of the old one, but as the new one doesn't have a proven track history, paypal won't release the money received into that account for ages.

I contacted paypal and they confirmed that my old account (still active) is ok (payments go through straight away on that one), and they confirmed that the new account is ok, and that the transactions going through the new account were all ok, but they point-blank refused to lift the 90-day/25-transaction "policy" whereby they with-hold your own money for a ridiculous amount of time while they earn interest from it.

I went around in a loop with paypal on the phone; how can I have 25 transactions go through on the new account if they're going to withhold all the transactions for weeks? That won't work; I'd go bankrupt, so it's not physically possible to ever get the new account past that with-holding pattern because the only way I can have 25 transactions go through and therefore get past the limit is for me to fund those 25 payments temporarily from a huge personal deposit which I don't have.

There's a lot of lawsuits going paypal's way about this at the moment according to google.

I've contacted the UK ombudsman about it, and I suggest that anyone reading this topic also contacts their own regulatory authority and makes as many complaints to as many people/organisations as possible.

Also, the "policy" is so intrinsically unfair/unreasonable, and is effecting so many people/companies in such a massively negative way, that I don't think paypal will survive for much longer if they persist in doing this; banks and credit card companies etc have started to allow direct payments via APIs etc, so merchants are going to start to move over to just having direct account-to-account payments on their sites instead of using agents like paypal or the other gateways/services.

I think PayPal have shot themselves in the foot with this; I think their policy is going to kill them off in the end; businesses are just going to move to direct payments instead in the years to come; paypal will go down in the history books as the most greedy and stupid organisation that ever existed, and it will go bust.
