Pending payment - seller changed email address

I'm trying to pay for items purchased through Ebay - I initially sent payment in the usual manner using the Ebay link but although I received a receipt, on my Ebay account summary the payment was shown as 'pending' rather than paid.  Apparently the seller's usual email address is not working and they've asked me to pay through Paypal using another address, which I have tried to do twice now, accessing my Paypal account and the 'send money' link.  However, each time I send the payment using their new address, I receive an email receipt showing their old one!  The seller is not receiving any notifications of payment and therefore I have cancelled my payment attempts, but what can I do now? - How can I send their payment?

Hi 4980wendy,

It sounds to me as though you are trying to complete the payment multiple times to your seller using the same procedure every time, by going through the eBay checkout.

If you try and complete a payment through the eBay checkout for an item you are purchasing, it will always try to be sent to the email address that is linked as the email address to receive the payment.

If your seller has provided you with the correct email address for you to send this payment, you firstly need to cancel any 'Unclaimed' payments on your PayPal account. From here, you can then press the 'Send Money' tab on the top of the PayPal webpage. From here, you can then type the correct email address for the payment to be sent to.

I hope this information helps Smiley Happy

David.

Is this safe doing it this way? I have a similar issue where the seller used a mis-spelt email address for his paypal account linked to the ebay listing.

I have cancelled the payment after he informed me the email address was incorrect and asked me to send the payment again through paypal to his correct email address.

Will I still qualify for paypal/ebay buyer protection?

Such a payment would still be covered under PayPal buyer protection 100%, worst case scenario you may have to submit the URL when filing a case, however the eBay system may not recognise the payment as part of an eBay transaction so you could probably not file an eBay claim.
