Why is my debit card suddenly being refused for payment?

Hi All,
I have always paid with my debit card via Paypal (unless there are funds in my account already) but my last two transactions have both been refused. This problem has coincided with Paypal crediting me with 'a penny for my thoughts'.
My credit card still functions for payments, but it is not my preferred card.
I have checked my card and there are no apparent problems with it, it works in all other respects, so I am stumped.
Would be very grateful of your input. I have a number of purchases on Ebay I would like to make, but do not wish to put them on my credit card as I want the funds to be debited via my debit card.
Thanks

What error message are you seeing when you try to use your debit card ? I assume you've checked the expiry date ?

When you use eBay checkout at the top it shows you the preferred funding method, press change and amend it to the card you do wish to use.

Hi montymontezuma,
If your card is only being refused on PayPal, you should double check that the expiry date, CVV2 number and the billing address are correct on your PayPal account. Sometimes if a card information is not registered exactly as it is on your card, your bank may refuse PayPal transactions.
When you are checking your billing address that is linked on your PayPal account, you should ensure as it is typed exactly as it is on your card statement. The reason for this is if there is one letter missing or if there is a full stop on your PayPal account and not on your statement, your bank may also refuse our request to process a payment from your card because the information we are providing to them is not exactly what they have.
To check the expiry date or billing address for your credit or debit card, just follow these steps:
- Log in to your PayPal account.
- Click 'Profile' near the top of the page.
- Click the 'Credit/Debit Cards' link in the 'Financial Information' column.
- Click the 'Edit' link next to the card you wish to update.
- Enter the updated information and click 'Save'.
I hope this information helps you to send a payment from your card.
