Gosh folks are sitting at their puters all the time, he may have gone shopping or anything and when he got back and find you had filed a claim already he may well have been miffed you hadn't given him time to contact you.

However if you have filed a dispute then give the seller time to contact and if not then escalate the dispute to a claim and if the seller can't prove delivery with a tracking number then you should get a refund, if you receive the item you can cancel the claim, if you receive it and it is misdescribed you can contact paypal and ask them to change the dispute to one of misdescribed.

Hi there imanhass,

Don't worry - If the payment was sent as a payment for 'Goods' then you are covered under our buyer protection policy regardless of if there was an invoice or not.

Does the same apply for seller protection? I advertised an item in classifieds and someone contacted me to say they were interested. They have sent the payment to my email address (I didn't realise I could raise an invoice). Should I have raised an invoice or if they selected goods will I be covered on seller protection? How do I check if they have selected goods? I have got suspicious as they have said they want it to be mailed to an alternative address, which obviously I will refuse to do, but I would like to know where I stand if they try to cancel the payment later on down the line? I will send the item special delivery.

If I request that they cancel the payment and send an invoice, will this give me more cover? Will I be charged fees still on the cancelled payment?

Hi there flippa,

Not all transactions are eligible for PayPal Seller Protection. If a transaction is eligible for PayPal Seller Protection, you'll see 'Eligible' or 'Partially eligible' on your 'Transaction Details' page.

Here's how to see if your transaction is eligible for Seller Protection:

  1. Go to www.paypal.co.uk and log in to your account.
  2. Click 'History' near the top of the page.
  3. Find the transaction, and then click 'Details.'
  4. Under Seller Protection see if your transaction is eligible.

With 'Eligible' transactions, you are fully protected if your buyer doesn't receive the item you shipped or if an unauthorized payment was made.

With 'Partially eligible' transactions, you are fully protected if a buyer doesn't receive the item you shipped. A 'Partially eligible' transaction does not protect you against unauthorized payments.

Other eligibility requirements:

  • The item must be a physical, tangible good that can be shipped.
  • You must ship the item to the postal address on the Transaction Details Page.
  • You must retain proof of postage or proof of delivery in accordance with the Seller Protection requirements.

To learn more about PayPal Seller Protection, click 'Legal Agreements' at the bottom of any PayPal page, then click 'User Agreement for PayPal Service'.
