Change Primary Backup Payment Account?

I have recently changed banks.  I added my new bank to the account on paypal, confirmed it and then set it as the primary account.  However, my old bank account is still set as the backup payment account.

How do you change which bank is your Bakcup Payment account?  My Confirmed Primary Account is NOT also my Backup account and has caused several problems because additional funds with withdrew from a second bank account that was not the primary, but labeled as "backup payment account".

Welcome to the boards!

Is there any pattern to the times when it is used?  When you change the Primary bank or card, it only applies to payments completed via Send Money or a checkout process.

If you have a subscription or recurring payment, that may need edited separately.  If you have back up funding for a PayPal Debit Card, that also would have to be edited separately.  Both of these settings can be adjusted in the Profile section.

Hope this helps,

Adrian

Im talking about the default backup payment method.  Associated with a bank account.  It kicks in anytime a charge is made to my paypal account where there is not enough funds in the paypal account; thus taking it from the default backup method to cover the difference.

I have switched banks and I want to update this default (primary, whatever) backup payment method to my new bank account.  I have found no option to do so under my profile.

To edit the default back up payment method for Instant Transfers, go to either Profile > Bank Accounts > Make Primary or Profile > My Money > Update on the bank account you want > Make Primary.

To edit the back up funding source for a debit card, go to Profile > PayPal Debit Card > select the desired debit card > Edit Backup Funding, or go to Profile > My Money > Update in the Debit and Credit Cards section > Edit > select and submit.

To edit the back up funding source for a recurring payment, go to Profile > Recurring Payments > Edit Funding sources.

One of these should get you to the area you're looking to edit.

Thanks!

I have a related problem that this answer does not solve.  My bank account is set up as primary as it should be but I recently made an online payment using my PayPal account, but the backup source used was my PayPay Mastercard Credit Card.  When I follow the suggestions to change this in the Help section it says to go through the Send Payment process. There is a place there to change the backup source but it seems to apply only to THAT transaction and does not make the change permanent.  How can I make my primary bank account the permanent default backup funding source for PayPal transactions?

The way the issue was resolved for me was by waiting until I had no pending ayments; that all money transactions were completed and done with.  Then I went into the "edit bank account" section.  There, I clicked on "remove" next to the (incorrect) primary default source.

A warning box came up suggesting I merely CHANGE the source.  GEE REALLY??  From there it allowed me to change the source.

BOTTOM LINE is that the bank account section and its default funding source is referring to the paypal credit/debit card.  SO, you need to go under the section for changing the default payment source for the PAYPAL CREDIT CARD.

Does that make sense?  If not, just try and remove the existing default source and it will give that oh-so-handy suggestion box.
