If my eCheck has cleared my bank account, why does it still show pending on my Paypal account?

I sent a payment using an eCheck a few days ago. After one day the payment was posted to my checking account but it still shows the payment is pending on my Paypal account. Shouldn't the payment go though instantly as soon as it clears my checking account? I have used other eChecks before and it has been an instant payment. Why does Paypal hold your money for several days?

An E-check has to clear just like a paper check. If has to clear through the ACH system.
This usually takes 20 5 business days.
If you add a credit card or branded (m/c, visa) to your paypal account, bank funded payments will be instant.
Even better it is always best to fund internet purchases with a credit card for total buyer protection.

I have a credit card on file as a backup. The status of the transaction is still pending.

If you have a bank account and cc on file with paypal, why did you send an e-check.
An e-check has to clear just like a regular check.
It has cleared/debited from your accopunt but still has to clear through the clearinghouse.
If you just send a payment and don't click on the e-check option the payment will still come from your bank account, but will be instant, since you have a cc on file.
